I had no idea how to solve a Rubik's cube when my son asked me to show him how to - a quick search found this Coach Cube and now we can both solve it. There are 8 steps to solving the cube and stickers label 1-8 on the Coach Cube. Peeling off the stickers numbered 1 and following the instructions allows you to complete the first step without the distraction of all the other squares. Steps 1 and 2 were very easy and we did those in one evening. Step 3 was a little more complex so once completed we decided to stay at that step, mixing up the Cube and re-solving to step 3, for a few days before going to step 4. After about 2 weeks both adult and child are capable of fully solving the cube without the assistance of the instructions. There are videos available to assist but we didn't need those because the instructions and pictures in the booklet provided were so clear. I think the idea behind the Coach Cube is excellent - my son is hoping to get a 4x4x4 cube for his birthday later this year and I hope the ideas he has learned with this will allow him to negotiate that challenge. There are cheaper options out there but this original cube feels like it will withstand many years of use and the stickers and booklet allowed us to learn together - something other cubes don't have. This was great fun and was quality time learning with my son.
