Fun project to do with Kids
My son and I had a blast building this together! It is made of great quality! Though some of the pieces had a harder time sticking, it was easily corrected with small dabs of super glue. I It is overall a stunning work of art. The material is a thick cardboard and pre colored. The lights were easy to install. The smaller pieces are a bit more challenging and delicate to put/ place where needed. My recommendation for age would be 12 and older if done on one's own and has patience, or 5 and up with an adult (like I did with my son).

Sturdy, easy to assemble, fun, and beautiful model
What an excellent model. It came well-packaged and could be easily given as a gift in the beautifully decorated box. I purchased this as a fun project for myself, however, so I just jumped right in to putting it together. As with many other products like this, it is made for multiple countries, so pictures are abundant in the instructions and they are super detailed and easy to follow. A first look at the book may be intimidating for some, it is pretty hefty and lengthy looking when you pull it out of the box, but it is because of the detail and pictures, which is exactly what I was looking for. Upon starting, I was initially concerned about ripping the printed paper off the foam backing board, as that happened with some prior models I’ve done. But none of that happened with this kit. I was even comfortable letting my kids help remove some of the pieces and having them help with assembly. No parts were lost to ripping or bending! I did have to take extra care with the sails, since they are printed and made with a thinner paper. But with time and patience, those came out great too. A single criticism that I have would be the lighting switch. Once installed in the ship and the rest of the ship is built around it, there is very little to press against to move the stiff on/off switch. There is a little latch that you can remove the device for battery changes, but for the routine on/off function, opening this latch would lead to premature wear. I would suggest either making sure the switch moves easily before placing it into the model, or perhaps even that the manufacturer consider making the device have a small push-style on/off switch. Otherwise, I think this is a great model. So overall, I think this is a great model and I would definitely recommend.

Light up Ship!
I purchased this for my husband who really enjoyed putting it together. It's surprisingly sturdy and he recommended it's good for beginner to intermediate builder. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The pieces are made out of a foam like material but still look good and easy to hold onto. He really liked that it came with working lights.

Cool ship! Fun project, but a little frustrating at times.
I'll start by saying I'm very much a novice model maker. However, I do large projects that are detail orientated and consider myself somewhat crafty. I haven't built a model in YEARS, until I stumbled upon this one. Spending a lot of time playing AC4 (best game ever), I had to have this. As said in previous reviews, the pieces are punched out from 14 sheets, gloss printed paper sandwiching a blackish dense foam. No glue required (if you're lucky/good), friction fit, tabs and slots. The build took me about 30 hours, and here's why - I used a popular black ink permanent marker to color all exposed edges, hoping to hide the fact that it's cardboard a little bit. I thought the copperish shading from the marker would accent the ship as well, but it turned out somewhat reflective, too. I also touched up the edges on some pieces with silver and gold paint pens, but the foam in the middle of the pieces doesn't really want to be painted. You can only do so much. Be careful. Or slap it together in 6 hours, details be damned! :-P I took my time, being methodical, but there are some steps that were truly frustrating - especially putting the skins on the hull, and mounting the sails with their design. My big advice is to pinch the tabs and slots a little bit to make sure they connect easier. Don't pinch them too hard or they will be a loose fit! Find an assembly video online if you get stuck. Don't forget to slow it down to .25X so you can see what's going on, if necessary. I had to spot a few places with quick drying glue to keep things in place occasionally. Use sparingly if you get hung up, but it is satisfying when you finally get that tab to stay in place. Make sure to test fit pieces before using this last resort! The LED wiring is cool, albeit not exactly a perfect fit. Be prepared to bend them aggressively to make the placements as instructed. The lanterns are whacked - I guess you just run the wires up and set them on the LED's. Kinda ugly. I also had to twist the wires on the aft above the captain's cabin to try to shorten them in order to fit them under the rear skirt piece that covers them. The piece still doesn't lay flat, but I tried. All in all, for the price, it's pretty dang cool. Sure, I have some tabs poking out - putting together the hull was a pain. My wife says it looks plastic-y when I finished, but hey, it's a $40 project. I christen thee - the S.S. Shar*ie!! Now I have to figure out where to display it... Enjoy, if you're the patient sort. I did overall, but there were some walk away moments. The finished product is worth it it though, IMO.

Great puzzle to assemble and light up.
Fun to assemble. No missing pieces, don't understand how that could happen? Instructions were good in that is did have the part numbers to join together but there was no sequence given so I could see how some complain, but I was a mechanic so obviously that helped. Have ordered another puzzle from this company.

Really fun to build
Really fun to build. Some parts didn’t line up perfectly so it was kind of hard to figure out but a fun challenge. There weren’t any missing pieces. It’s a great size and fits on one of my bookshelves perfectly. The lights have functioned well and have lasted a long time.

Hard to put together
it was hard to put together. Not all the parts would stay together and after trying awhile the cardboard started to split and then it would not go into the holes. After awhile I just stopped and now it is sitting there half put together
