Wire has a thick insulation and easily zips apart. The wire gauge does appear to be 18-awg advertised. With flux, wire solders very well for projects. I would purchase this product again when needed.

Calculate the correct amperage you need and find the right awg wire for it. I order this 10 gauge and the 12 gauge too because I bought an inline fuse to match it. I had a rocker switch panel and I needed the main power line to be thicker so I use the 10 gauge for that. I use the 12 gauge to wire after the rocker panel. If you plan on using a relay, then the relay can be any gauge since it's job is to send a signal, that's it. The 12 gauge would be to power the led lights. I use a clamp meter to determine how much amperage the led lights main positive wire has and the led lights would come with a certain gauge wire to it. These are quality 10 gauge wires. I got a bargain for it. And yes the positive and negative wire are stuck together, I had to use pliers to pull it apart.
