Optical mice work well on most opaque diffusely reflective surfaces like paper. Most will not work properly on reflective surfaces like polished stone or transparent surfaces like glass. This mouse does not use dark field illumination (which works on reflective surfaces) therefore the available surfaces are limited to non-reflective.

The button lest you use a free-wheeling mouse wheel which is super fast and super sensitive, or press it and have it be like a normal mouse with a slow scroll that clicks when you rotate the scroll wheel.
