The Art of My Neighbor Totoro (Studio Ghibli Library)

A very large and extremely high quality book. The print quality cannot be better and the content is what is supposed to be: a bunch of background art, sketches in pencil and watercolor and final cel art. The book finishes off with interviews with the crew with insight of the creation of the movie. A lovely purchase for sure.

The book wasnt wrapped in anything so damage was inevitable BUT amazingly it was only a few dents in the back of the book. And since there's nothing on the back no harm there. The content is a lot more informative than i expected which is good. Not only do you get pretty pictures but also descriptions in how the animation was created. Its technically informative and strikes an interests to those who want to understand further about the studio and the art work.

Buy it... Just buy it... The paintings, sketches and concept art are beautiful, exceptional art from an exceptional studio. At £12 its a steal, if your a lover of art an art student or an artist these Ghibli studio books should be on your shelves somewhere. One thing I would add to the previous reviews which bares mention is how 'clean' and organized the books layout feels, they remind me of 1970s hardback books as there is a weight and a quality to the books, the printing to deserves note also as the pages are thick and more pearl bordering on matt than glossy. I was expecting something much less expansive too, art books normally feel a little thin but not these ones 176 pages feels closer to 300... Think I will have to buy all of them....

I really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes of this film and seeing how the characters were developed. If you love art books I’d recommend getting this one.

A stunning book. If you love the film as much as I do I would highly recommend this book. It show the whole creation process of the film showing a lot of the rough water colours to more refined character design sketches, concept art work and the finished backgrounds and cell animation. One part I really liked was how much though was put into the designs like the blue print drawing showing the full layout of the house. If the other Ghibli books are of this quality I would love to add more to my collection, especially Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service.

I'm so very pleased with this book, it's exactly as I had hoped and is the first of many I've been saving for. I've deducted a star because the book arrived with damage to both the top and bottom of the cover and both of the top corners. I hope it wasn't sent out like that but I assume it was damaged in transit due to it being packaged in nothing more than a brown paper amazon bag. Dissapointing but it's the contents of the book I wanted so I'm not too bothered.

The quality is fantastic! No doubt a book every studio ghibli fan should have. Filled with concept art with illustrators/miyazakis notes.

Beautiful book! I especially loved the discussion of drawing the house in different light, weather conditions, and months of the year, as well as how its depiction was approached from various angles/entrance points. Amazing amount of thought put into figuring out the light to bring the house to life. The house setting is one of my favorite aspects of the film. The books also tells an interesting story of character evolution since initially it was supposed to be about one girl.

Sou fã ardorosa das animações de Hayao Miyazaki. Este livro é um "making of" de uma das mais adoráveis. Mostra o processo de criação de My Neighbor Totoro, detalhes do processo de criação das personagens, dos cenários e duas seções importantes - uma sobre a técnica de animação do filme e outra, um relatório de produção com vários pequenos detalhes que fizeram a alegria de uma fã de carteirinha como eu! Encadernação em capa dura, muito bem feita, que vai me permitir guardar este tesouro por tempo indefinido! Uma pequena maravilha! PS: A pessoa que recebeu este livro (EU!), tem 63 anos (com uma alma de quatro anos).

Ich bin ein großer Fan von Ghibli. Die Filme von Ghibli sind großartig und haben eine wirklich einzigartige Ästhetik und Atmosphäre. Das Buch enthält wunderschöne Illustrationen und Hintergrundinformationen.
