Immediately effective at calming my reactive rescue dog
We have a very reactive French bulldog, who is a rescue and was a former stray. It means she's always alert and clingy, barking immensely at dogs or loud door knocks. Having switched on the Adaptil Calm plug-in diffuser for 10mins, she semed a little dozy. An hour later she's fully asleep. I wasn't sure if she'd still be responsive, but when a tupperware dropped off the kitchen side, making a loud bang, she was up and awake in a second! We'll keep using this and see how it goes but I'm already immediately impressed with how effectively this has calmed her down.

Good product
I got this Adaptil plug in to use over the bonfire period. Plugged it in 2 weeks before to hopefully start taking affect ready for the first fireworks. Our Patterdale terrier is 2 and half, and is usually very playful and energetic with rest sessions lasting only 10 minutes before being too curious and getting up to nosy around again. After around 2 days of plugging the Adaptil in, he was a lot calmer and was lying on his dog bed much more - normally he is glued to us on the couch for attention, and wasn't as bothered by neighbours coming home etc. By the end of the first week he was less subdued and mopey but still nice and calm. When the fireworks started he definitely was his usual self plodding round rather than getting scared and hiding. We did also make sure to have the curtains closed and the TV sound turned up a little more. I've only given it 4 stars though, and this is because the calming effect definitely didn't last in him once we took him outside for walks, not even enough for a quick walk. If a firework went off 1 minute after going out of the house, he stopped dead it his tracks and refused to walk further. I'd consider next year buying him a collar as well to see if that helps. Secondly, it didn't help when there was a thunder storm and lightening. Perhaps this was too loud and scary for any amount of pheromone to override.

From a Believer To a Protector: Why I've Moved Beyond Adaptil in 2026
⚠️ This is a story of transformation that turns into a warning. In 2024, I witnessed the strikingly positive effect Adaptil can have but in 2026, I stopped using it immediately due to newly uncovered risks related to the petrochemicals it contains - switching instead to a safer strategy. THE 2024 BREAKTHROUGH: A MOMENT OF PURE RELIEF I’ll be honest: I was a total skeptic for years. After a failed attempt with a puppy in 2015, I had written Adaptil off. But during a stressful vet visit in 2024 for a leg injury, I watched another dog go into a state of crisis. Her stress was so profound - back arched, ears pinned, and eyes wide - that I genuinely interpreted her distress as physical pain. In the waiting room, she walked over to an Adaptil diffuser and took several deep breaths. The change was instant: her spine levelled, her face softened, and she finally settled. In that moment of pure relief, I became a believer. ⏰ THE 2026 WAKE-UP CALL: CHOOSING SAFETY OVER SYNTHETICS However, as we move through 2026, my perspective has shifted from "what works in the moment" to "what is safe for a lifetime." I uncovered new information that leaves me horrified. Realising what I had been pumping into my home and near my dogs' sensitive respiratory systems actually made me feel sick. I stopped using the product immediately. While my "aha" moment about the power of pheromones was impactful, I cannot ignore the health and environmental risks hiding in Adaptil’s hardware: ☣️ THE PETROCHEMICAL REALITY: Adaptil uses ISOPARAFFINIC HYDROCARBONS as a base. The thought of my dogs constantly inhaling petroleum-derived chemicals felt at odds with the "natural" peace I was trying to create. ⚠️ HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARDS: Learning that the solution is LETHAL IF INGESTED and an ASPIRATION HAZARD (can cause a chemical pneumonia) and also serious eye irritation was a turning point. 🚮🚫 SPECIALIST DISPOSAL REQUIRED: Because it is toxic to aquatic life, it must not be thrown in household waste - a major red flag for a product diffusing into the heart of our homes. 🔬❓ INCONSISTENT EVIDENCE & HIGH COST: At around £25, This is an expensive trial for people whose dogs are non-responders - and honestly, many dogs fall into that category. Scientific reviews now categorise the evidence as weak to moderate, and completely inconsistent. This aligns with my experience, of it helping one of my dogs but not the another. A PLEA TO THE MANUFACTURER: I am calling on the makers of Adaptil to reformulate this product into something that is truly safe. Pet guardians deserve a way to provide pheromone support without compromising their pet's health or the environment. Please, give us a non-toxic, petroleum-free product that we can use without fear. MY "LAYERED CALM" STRATEGY: BUILDING ON OUR BOND Because Adaptil failed to help my first dog, I realised that true security shouldn't come from a bottle. I developed a "MULTI-LAYERED" APPROACH that builds directly on the bond I have with my dogs. Instead of relying on synthetic pheromones, I now use our connection to create a chemical-free sense of calm. If you are looking for a safer path, here is how I use our relationship to anchor their calm: THE "SAFETY SCENT" & TACTILE ANCHOR: The most powerful pheromone in the world is YOU. I use a T-shirt I’ve recently worn or their favourite familiar blankets. I’ve also introduced the Snuggle Puppy Heartbeat Toy (ASIN: B000C9YHFS), which provides a physical heartbeat an warmth that mimics a mother’s presence. 🎵 BIO-ACOUSTIC THERAPY: We’ve traded the hum of a diffuser for the science of sound. I play music specifically engineered for canine ears, such as Through a Dog's Ear (ASIN: 1591796423) or the calming arrangements of The Mozart Effect: From Playtime to Sleepytime (ASIN: B00000DA1O). These frequencies are proven to sooth dogs nervous systems naturally. 🐾 ACTIVE ADRENALINE RELEASE: Stress lives in the body. We now use light play and nose-work activities to help them process adrenaline physically. This turns nervous energy into a game that reinforces their trust in me. ❌ FINAL THOUGHT I’m grateful for the "instant calm" Adaptil showed me was possible, but I’m more grateful for the lesson its failure taught me. Our pets trust us to protect them - I’m choosing to KEEP THEIR AIR CLEAN and their calm ROOTED IN OUR BOND. Note: I am more than happy to answer product questions in the Q&A section to help other pet guardians make informed decisions about Adaptil.

Good buy
Bought for adding a new puppy to my other two dogs. It calmed them down, so done the job.

I ordered it because I was happy with the adaptil chew tablets but this diffuser doesn't do anything for my dog.

Didn't really notice any difference. The only thing I noticed is that it finished quickly
