Review: Sophistication on the cheap, grandeur on a budget. - I was looking for a unique fragrance, heavy and rich that would make me stand out from the crowd. I found it! Encre Noir (Black ink) is exactly what is expected from a french fragrance, no other country can compete. It's indulgent, decadent and luxurious. Quite a thick, somewhat nauseating scent, yet it's posh, fabulous and gorgeously dark. Lalique does a wonderful job of presenting this in the style of an ink bottle. Notes of cypress, viviter, moss and wood lasts the the day and throughout the night. You'll smell it everywhere for the next 24 hours! Remarkably this is a budget fragrance, yet it easily masquerades itself as a high end, red carpet au de parfum. Gothic, Phantom of the opera meets Ricky horror and Dracula. Perfect for wearing in the autumn/winter months. However festive sparkle this is not, neither is it the run-of-the-mill high street eu de toilette. This is sophistication on the cheap, grandeur on a budget. It's Lalique after all, what else would one expect? Review: Close dupe for Cowboy Grass - Gorgeous dupe for Cowboy Grass. I'm female and adore it on myself but can equally see it suiting a man. Very sexy, earthy and rich.

Good well priced fragrance
I bought this as a 'daytime' fragrance as it's not too expensive. It has a lovely masculine note, smells s bit like Drakkar Noir from the 80's lol. My only complaint is on my skin it's not long lasting but still a good solid men's fragrance for the price. Nice bottle too.

5 star for fragrance, 2 star for staying power, 0 star for sillage
So I knew Encre Noire before I bought it on Amazon. I smelled it and got a sample off a parfumeur, where the 100ml EdT retailed at ca. £70. I really liked it, loved its tamed vetyver blended with musk and that woody base note that is so evocative of ink on paper. And that sample had some staying power - a dab on the chest, and I felt inked for the day. £30 odd off Amazon sounded like an amazing bargain, but this must be a different formulation, or perhaps a batch that suffered production quality issues. The blend of the fragrance is definitely right, exactly as it is compared to the sample I have - but a generous few sprays on the chest and neck and within 5 minutes of my getting dressed, there's barely anything left. After a few hours my wife couldn't smell anything. There is no sillage, and even though this is an almost completely new fragrance to my nose, I can't really smell it on myself during the day - so much for the pleasure of wearing fragrance. Before you ask, that sample I refer back to was definitely Eau de Toilette, not Eau de Parfum, so in principle the same formulation (do they even do Eau de Parfum for men?)... It goes to show. If you pay half the price, there's probably a reason...

Powerful projection and 11/10 longevity!!
Astonishing scent, like nothing I’ve ever smelt before! The opening has a disagreeable burnt odour, but once it settles down the heart notes last long and are thick; Ink, wet leaves, herbal smoulder and damp meadow smell. I find it a very ambivalent perfume. The dry down lasts an eternity!! I've read a few reviews complaining of the poor longevity of this scent, allI can say is the performance on me is supernatural. The longevity is abnormal, I can detect this scent the next day on both the skin and clothing, I can smell it on my shirts after they’ve been washed and are blowing on line!! I’ve really come across no other scent with such staying power. I know an induviduals unique body chemistry have a role in sillage and longevity, but this stuff is through the roof....I have to use it very conservatively, unlike many, (sometimimes expensive) scents I've used in the past. It was a blind but in fact, and one of the best and most unusual I have made. Superb value, at the price I paid back in December - £25.90!! Who can ever work out the mysterious trending ways of Amazon?! I found a 75ml bottle of Armani Code on Friday eveving for £27, I put it in my wish list and when I went to but it a few hours later it was nearly fifty quid!!

excellent entry point into niche frags
ok, first things first - if you're thinking of buying this because you're looking to smell great to a *wide* range of people, stop. i don't think this is that. pick up club de nuit intense (aventus clone) or one of the many, many designer "blue" fragrances. if you're on a budget, Milton lloyd has a clone of sauvage called Leo that's a tenner and will get you most of the way there imo. encre noire translates to black ink, and the perfumer has done a fantastic job with that in mind - i mostly get cypress, vetiver, wood and an inkiness that permeates and ties it together. the thing is, i don't know many people who would like to be constantly smelling an inky forest. I love it, I know other people who love it, but it's not something I'd say has mass appeal. If you see people saying longevity sucks - I don't see how that's possible. This is a pretty ISO e super heavy fragrance, which sticks around. It's possible they're just going anosmic to it. For what it is, I think it's impeccable. The price is crazy for what you're getting. Detractors have said it's "simple" and that chanel's Sycamore does it better - well, maybe, but sycamore is 10x more expensive. encre noire has a well deserved cult status in the fragrance community and unless lalique triple the price i don't see that changing

I bought it for my brother, but the entire family loved it. I recommend it 100%. It's smells like the perfume wore by rich Arabs.
