Heavy duty design, so far quite reliable. Maybe not so well suited for fine, precision craft sculpting.
I purchased this hot knife to assist me in breaking down many large styrofoam shipping cooling retention containers that were used to ship (cross country) perishables (frozen / cold) food items to us. No careful cutting required, no craft precision cutting, just heavy duty rough cutting the styrofoam containers into smaller pieces that would fit into our trash can and that would not jam in our trash can preventing the can from being easily emptied into the trash hauler's truck. Also, no styrofoam mess from sawing up the containers as I was doing (trying to do) previously.Note: Our curbside recyclers do not accept this styrofoam making disposal necessary (or moving us out of our house as the styrofoam containers take over). Our local food shelf has expressed no more interest in these containers -- we contacted them multiple times.Recommendations:It should be used in a well ventilated area (lots of strong odors generated). It gets extremely hot so great care should be taken to not touch its hot parts. Keep children and pets at a safe distance (toxic odors and hot parts). This hot knife worked perfectly. I can find nothing bad to say about it.

Does the job
I only paid $30 in 2018 to cut the foam in pelican cases. doesn’t really work great for that. It’s more designed for slicing. I used it today. Seven years later to cut some tarp it worked OK for that.I’m not really sure what people expect in this price range.. it’s not rdesigned for plunging or cutting with the tip.. also it has a lot to do with the user. If you slice and wash your material, it comes out acceptable better than using a razor knife. at least the tarps won’t fry.

Works well, takes a little while to heat up
This one seems to take a little longer than another I had before, but when it heats up it works well.

It does not heat up like my last knife and is has a thicker blade ...
My expensive set lasted years but broke recently... didn't want to send $150+ again. So I ordered this.It does not heat up like my last knife and is has a thicker blade as well; as a result it does not cut as quickly or as efficiently. It also burns away a 1/4 inch of foam - not good for precision. I will keep it as an extra for when working with others - but I justordering a new one to finish the project I'm working on... so it wasn't what I needed.

Does not make clean cuts

Good heat
The bottom is a little tricky, at least on mine but it heats up quickly and does exactly what I need for a good price.

It's a "knife"
The blade is so thick and chunky.Mentally comparing it from a sword to a wooden practice sword. Clunky and unwieldy. Itll get the job done in an industrial setting. But don't try doing cosplay sculpting
