This book is such a fascinating collection! I love how it dives into the rich folklore of Japanese Yokai and other supernatural creatures. The artwork is stunning, authentic, and really captures the eerie yet beautiful spirit of these beings. Perfect for anyone interested in Japanese culture or just looking for some spooky inspiration!

Andreas Marks continues to break new ground with his many recent books. This reveals a world of prints that as a collector I had largely been ignoring but am now appreciating. I also purchased Mitford's "Tales of Old Japan", first published in 1871. Mitford collected these tales after living in Japan shortly after it opened to the West. Many of Mitford's Tales include Yokai but it will take more study for me to fit them together with Mark's wonderful research found in his book. And what a great idea to pair his research with the beautiful prints he located as curator at the Minneapolis Museum of Art as well as numerous other locations. The book is a "tour de force".

Interesting book

i was expecting better quality than about half of these choices were.

This book is an encyclopaedia of Yokai, fully illustrated with a varied level of detailed description (depending on how much was available to the author). I'm a little disappointed that the book arrived with a crumpled jacket and the top of the book is slightly damaged (though not terribly). So, I do question paying £7 when they pack it with such lack of care.
