Hollow UHMWPE Braided Cord 1.3mm, 1.6mm, 2mm Spliceable for Tent Guyline Tarp Hammock Ridgeline Whoopie Sling Bear Bagging for Camping Backpacking

I bought this item at full Amazon price, so no compulsion to be anything but honest in my review... Cord seems very strong and is light. I am happy that I noticed very little stretch (ie when pulled taught as a tarp ridgeline, though I'm going back to paracord as it's so thin, my prussiks don't hold as well to it). In contrast to a review or two I read, I **WAS** able to splice this fairly easily to make some continuous loops and shackles, etc. It did not fray on me. The cord I received has 12 strands that can fairly easily be un-twisted - I undo about 1" at ends and trim individual strands to make a taper on the end prior to splicing. I happen to use a mechanical pencil tip to help unbraid the end because there's always one laying about on my desk and have had no problem with fraying. Yes, if you pick at the ends of the INDIVIDUAL 12 strands in the braid, they will unravel and fray, but don't do that, there is no need!!! I was worried that at 5/64 I might have trouble splicing. Not so. It is hollow braid like I hoped and while I found i have to "scrunch" it up a bit to loosen the braid a bit, when I do that, I can easily get my fid or wire down the center and create burries 3-5" long. So far it's held the few knots I've thrown in it fairly well (overhand, double bowline, Flemish bend, taut-line hitch), though it is a bit slippery. I use it to hold things far less than it's load rating, so cannot speak to how strong it actually is and given it's slipperyness, I would NOT use it for anything where failure could lead to me falling or something heavy falling on me. For example, though, I can get a very tight ridgeline for a tarp and prussiks made from it hold tight to a 3/8" nylon rope to hold my "small" kayak up to a wall very well with no unintended slipping. As other reviewers have stated, the color is a bit of an issue ... It looks fairly red when on the spool, though not quite as saturated as on my computer screen. When you handle it a bit, it fades quickly to a pink color. I looked but did not notice dye on my hands or clothes though, so no problem there. I don't know if it will weather well or not - I do not plan to use for extended outdoor use so don't really care. The intensity of the color was/is not important to me - using this for ridgelines, guylines, loops to use for prussiks, etc. If i want high-vis, I have several different types of reflective cord, so not taking a star off as it doesn't affect me - just be aware if, unlike me, you are buying for the color. Handling, performance, etc., I'm still very impressed with this cord and would reccommend it as well as likely will buy more from Emma Kite based on this experience.

I purchased this line to use for speargun slip tip rigging. It’s tough to splice due to being coated it a waxy substance and fairly rigid, but it is extremely strong and durable. I have landed several large California yellowtails using slip tips rigged with this line. It’s held up extremely well in saltwater. The color fades with the splicing and with heavy use, but I expected it to.

Cord is good quality and strength quoted seems accurate. Hard to get knots to stay, but that's any uncoated (bare) uhmwpe cord. This is good strong stuff for the price but minus one star because some of the Emma kites cord (the 3/16") was braided a little too tight to be able to get a fid through for putting in a loop. Takes alot of patience.

Great for getting a line up a tree to pull up an antenna. Very light and slippery. Didn't catch at all and made the job easier than a heavier nylon line. Don't ask how I know.

Excellent quality UHMWPE line! I needed to replace the wire cable in my kayaks, that is used to control the rudder, by means of the foot pedals. The existing wire cable was run through a nylon tube, through most of the kayak to support the stainless steel wire. The wire was old and had some rust in several places (kayaks are 24 years old). The wire was 1.5 mm diameter, so I needed this or slightly less diameter in the new style UHMWPE line. The 1.3 mm worked perfect and now there is zero friction, to operate the rudder. A tech tip for those doing the same thing: cut the fitting off of one end of the wire cable, carefully drip soapy water in the tube and run the cable back and forth, to free up the internal rust in the tube, then using air from a compressor or a can of air to clean keyboards, blow the nylon tube dry. Cut the new line longer than the cable (maybe up to ten inches, dip the end of the new line and the bare end of the wire cable, into a solvent, such as alcohol. Let the solvent dry, then using a gel style super glue, glue the line to the wire and let cure for an hour. Lastly pull the old cable out of the nylon tubing and feed the new line into the tubing. Cut off the wire to line connection, then tie the new line to the rudder (wrap around screw and tie about 6 half hitches. Do the same to the pedal slide.

I got this chord to use for making small adjustable and reusable ties to bind things to together. Think "zip ties" but reusable and a lot stronger. I use them to hold coils of rope, hang tools, control shore power chords and a myriad other uses. The cord was pretty easy to work with and splice. Like most cord it this kind it has a coating which makes it just a little stiff at first, but it softens up with use. I think it was a good value for the price and I would certain get it again when I use up what I have.

Easy to work with, color doesn't fade too bad.

Combined with a couple of pulleys, makes for effective cord to hang food barrels while canoeing. Very light weight. So thin it is hard to grip though.

I bought the 1.6mm (750lb) line to use as a tarp ridgeline and structural ridgeline for my hammock. Having never done any splicing before I was apprehensive about how it would go. But with a darning needle, a couple of screwdrivers and some wire cutters I was able to make brummel splices, continuous loops, and tail end burys. It comes on the spool black, but after working it for a while the black fades to silver/grey as you can see in my photos. The prussik knots slide initially, I think the line has some kind of coating which rubs off, (which is why the colour fades I presume), make your prussiks big enough to do 4 wraps and they hold tight. Overall this is probably the best value UHMWPE line you'll find. Maybe not quite as high quality as big branded dyneema line available, but £15 for 31m this is well worth it.
