Is the animal harmed in the process of extracting the oil from their body?

The better question to ask is how many emus were killed to make all those bottles of emu oil? The answer is a LOT. Thank you for having the decency to care enough to ask about this. Most people do not.Here is what you need to know about this stuff. BIRDS ARE KILLED TO MAKE IT. If any company tells you their birds are not harmed in the production of emu oil, they are LYING. Emus are large flightless birds, native to Australia. The oil sac is under the skin on its back and helps the parent survive while it is sitting on its eggs. They are the second largest bird next to the ostrich in the ratite family. A number of years ago, some people decided to make a lot of money in emu ranching, killing the birds for their meat. A lot of people lost a lot of money when this didn't go over, some of them taking baseball bats to the birds in anger and frustration over the loss of money. Then someone got the idea of promoting emu oil. Various brands are out there promoting this stuff for everything from skin moisturizing to hair care to health issues. It's just like all the "red krill oil" flooding TV commercials or killing rhinos for their horns for aphrodisiacs. Completely worthless. This oil is found in a sac inside the bird along its back and is described as similar to human sebum. The oil from emus is just like the oil from your skin. Would you kill a human just to rub the oil from their sebaceous glands on you under the guise of "health"?Some birds are still killed for meat, and the oil obtained for health and beauty products is secondary (not unlike leather in the cattle industry). Some are killed ONLY for their oil. However, there is NO WAY that this oil can be obtained without killing the bird. It cannot be humanely liposuctioned or gotten in any other way. This is verifiable thought the regulatory counci for emu oil, such as it is (a bunch of emu ranchers, basically!).There is nothing magical or miraculous about emu oil. There are, in fact, other oils that ARE humane, non-animal and are a much better and beneficial combination of natural oils (some have names like Emulator Oil or Emulate Oil; others are just different oils altogether, like coconut oil, etc.).For anyone who is vegetarian, vegan or who simply has the intelligence to understand that it just isn't necessary to kill a bird for beauty care, this is important information to know. Can you use this product for shin splints?

Yes. For inflammation. Emu oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. I personally mix essential oils by the drops into a roller bottle. And I add about 30 to 40 drops of emu oil then top it with a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil. I made this roller bottle for a guy i work with who suffers from spinal bifida and he asked me today to make another roller for him. If you have inflammation Emu oil will help. I am personally allergic to nsaids ( ibuprofen etc.) So emu oil is an awesome alternative for my pain. Maybe it dosnt work for everyone. But next time your knee or lower back is aching try a little dab of pure emu oil.

Will it help grow eyelashes?
