Honest review after ONE YEAR of use
As a 6ft (183cm) man weighing about 13 stones (83kg) I was concerned that this DYU folding electric bike would not be big enough. It actually feels like a full-size bike when riding it and I prefer the upright riding position with a longer seat pole that I added. It's certainly a neat little package but I ride it to work every day and use it on appointments around the city of Bath (which is full of hills). Some kids laughed as I rode by and one bloke thought it was a Brompton! Everyone has an opinion... As an affordable entry into electric bicycles, don't expect this to zoom up hills. The motor assist takes care of modest slopes and it feels a lot quicker than its top speed of 15mph (24kph) on the straight. Extra peddling in its fixed (one) gear takes it up to 20mph (32kph) and it's possible to achieve 30mph (48kph) free-wheeling down a steep hill. With confidence, this little bike corners well and I never feel as though I'm holding-up the flow of traffic in the city. It's such a great way to get around and it folds-up neatly into the boot of a car. The app never worked but I'm guessing I've done over 2000 miles (3,218 km) and only had to replace brake pads. Everything else works fine and I'll be interested to see how long the battery lasts. I am just about to upgrade to a GoCycle costing ten times as much as this DYU folder, primarily so that I can ride up the steepest of hills with motor assist. The DYU will always be my back-up and I won't sell it. It's a great little bike and I would recommend it to anyone.

What I wish I'd known before buying this electric bike
This bike is really good and well worth the money (when compared to the very high price of electric bikes generally!). Here's what I wish I'd known before I bought this particular bike. 1. It's one speed. There are no gears. Surprisingly this one gear is very versatile. 2. The centre of gravity is very low, with those small wheels, so be aware when going over bumps. This is fine in a city, or on a road, but I wouldn't feel safe going on any loose surface riding this bike. 3. The modes of operation are as follows: a) pedal with the motor turned off. You feel some slight drag when doing this, but it's minimal. b) Turn the motor on and pedal, and the motor will 'assist' you, so you'll accelerate and maintaining a steady speed is hard. c) Twist the right handlebar grip and let the motor do all the work. You can maintain a speed quite easily in this mode, by keeping your grip in the same position. Let off to slow, twist more to go faster. d) If you follow (c), and maintain a steady speed, after a while 'cruise control' kicks in and you maintain that speed - unless you turn off the motor (left handlebar switch) or brake. 4. As a 'keep fit' bike, expect to have to turn the power off whenever you don't need the motors assistance. It's a 'hub motor' which operates on the rear wheel and as I said above, it's not possible to 'adjust' the level of motor assistance like you can with assisted pedalling type motors which operate on the crank (where the pedals turn). 5. It's heavier than you think! But I can still carry it up the stairs, but some will struggle. 6. The front light is built in, and runs from the bike motors battery. The rear light is supplied, with a battery, and you attach it to the saddle stem using its inbuilt rubber connector. It works fine, but is not powered by the bike motors battery. 7. The tyres need to be pumped to iro 35psi and they use the larger valve connector, like a car. It's a good design and I'm glad I have it, but if an electric mountain bike with a crank motor was lower in price, I'd buy that in preference - as I mainly want it for keeping fit! So I'm keeping it, and using it 'motor off' when I can, and motor on, when my knees complain. This is easy to achieve as the 'on/off' push switch is by your left hand. I hope this helps someone who, like me, might be struggling to decide what best to buy...

Brilliant little bike - so good I bought 2
I bought this as a shuttle bike between our house, and the storage facility for our Motorhome, which is about a mile away, and to save two of us driving to the facility and both driving back home in different vehicles What is impressive is the subtle uptick in power when you start to pedal, meaning that to make headway, without using the throttle, is a “pedal and run” procedure. On the flat this resulted in less pedalling and more running (the power surge lasts for about 3 - 5 seconds), and up a hill, slightly more frequent pedalling, but nothing too onerous, as the power assist kicks in quickly. My wife was eyeing up a ladies bike in Halfords, but that was almost three times the price. However, having ridden this, she was happy for me to order her one also, and that arrived within a few days of the order, much like mine. We also intend to use these to park our motorhome within a mile or two of an attraction / town centre and use these for the “last mile”. So in essence we will use this like a Brompton commuter bike, but without the cost. Saddle is very comfortable. The bike is heavy for its looks, and on the advert you will see a chap “skipping” up some steps holding it by its handle, but having lifted it and watching the advert again, you can see the sinews in his arms straining, but for us this doesn’t detract from a great piece of kit, at a really good price. I am 59, 14 st and 5’ 10”” and it’s fine for me. The only downside is the small wheels and potholes, but as occasional (and leisure) commuters, this is just perfect.

Quality isn't great in the long term. Near on impossible to change the tyre!
The bike is great, when it works... We have had two of these for my daughters to commute to school for over a year and the quality is beginning to show. The brakes stopped working, the tyres pop a lot and it's nearly impossible to change them because of a design flaw where you can't actually remove the tyre so have to try to change it still attached. This is frustrating and time consuming. Have now had to change the inners tyres about 6 times between both bikes. They are also REALLY heavy and are not easy to lift. They have paid for themselves through not commuting by car or bus but frankly you're better of spending a little more for longevity.
