INNER SOLE ARCHES AND COMFORT: MEDIUM -GOOD -SUGGEST: SORBATHANE RUBBER INSOLES FOR ADDED INNER SOLE COMFORT. OVERALL SHOE VENTING: EXCELLENT: This particular MERRELL SHOE DESIGN has side holes and mesh venting on the upper portion of the shoe. The holes and mesh design is quite,uniique in this hiking shoe. These venting hole and mesh design allows lateral air flow venting to cool your feet in comfort. HEELS: Although I felt the heel needed to be thicker; due to the daily wear and tear punishment the heel of the shoe receives. The downside of making the heel thicker would entail making this hiking shoe heaver and would take away the the unique sole design structure. My experience with the MERRELL shoes I purchased; is; that all FOUR (4)pairs of MERRELL shoes that I've purchased; have WORN DOWN HEELS! Yet, the soles look almost new! ALTHOUGH I rotate my Merrell shoes; the HEELS OF THE MERRELL SHOES wear out TOO SOON ---within six to eight months. HEEL REPAIR COST: $30.00+:::((( LACES:: :(( "SORRY" YOU HAVE TO TIE THEM UP! THESE ARE NOT "SLIP ON SHOES" LIKE; THE LACES ON A PAIR OF EXCELLENT MERRELL CHAMELEON LOCK LACES . SUGGEST PURCHASE AFTER MARKET LACE LOCK LACES. These shoes fit me well 1/2 size larger than most others. The toes are kind of pointed and my feet aren’t. They are very comfortable and I had a pair previously that took years to wear out. They were a little tight on my toes though. I ordered this pair 1/2 size bigger ( I have 2 pair of Merrill shoes that are 8s and fit great) and this solved the problem with my toes. Traction is great. Looks are out of this world. Buy some before they are all gone.

I love these shoes. On my 8th pair of this exact style since summer of 2012. I wear these shoes everywhere and anywhere. Kind of don't want many others to know about how great these shows are I worry that the price might go up on these.

Great fit and very comfortable. Order to size, they fit normally. This is third pair I’ve purchased over last 2 + years. I wear them most every day. First part to wear out has always been the heal due to a lot of hiking on concrete and asphalt surfaces. Will buy again if they’re still available when this pair is worn out.

These were my favorite Merrells to bad they quite making them

First things first, the color in the Amazon listing is not very accurate. I ordered the Castle Rock color thinking that it's mostly black, kind of a faded black. However, there are hints of dark green/gray in it. Captain hindsight says that a google image search of "castle rock color" would have totally cleared that up. I do stand by the fact that the image for the Castle Rock model posted on Amazon does not look like the actual color. Secondly, the sizing that everyone is talking about is totally true. I was skeptical on which size to get so I actually went to a store that carried some Merrell shoes and tried on a Moab version. I wear a 10.5 so I tried on a Moab in 10.5 and it fit perfectly. Just for reference, I tried on a 11.5 and it was way too big. So, after much reading, I decided to order the size 11 intercept shoe. It arrived, I tried it on and it was too small, length-wise and width-wise. I suppose it MAY have fit after breaking it in but I didn't want to pay all that money for a shoe that may not stretch out. I had to send it back. I just got the 11.5 size in and it fits perfectly! Once I figured out the size issue, I'm happy and can say that they seem to be of awesome quality and I can't wait to take them out on some trails this weekend.

I love the style of these hiking shoes & that they are all leather; & Merrell is a trusted brand. However, these shoes run small & have a very narrow toe box. Based on customer reviews, I ordered a half size larger (12) than I normally wear (11.5), but I received a 11.5! The 11.5 is too small & I am being charged $8 to return them, even though I ordered the larger size! And since the ordering process for this item will not permit the customer to select the appropriate size, I am ordering a replacement pair from another supplier at an additional $35 over the price of these shoes!!
