Fits Stapes Dexley Chair, brought old chair back to life!
A crack formed in the plastic base of my "Union & Scale Dexley" chair from Staples, as seen in the "BEFORE" pictures. This caused a tilt that made the chair almost unusable, though the rest of the chair was in excellent condition. I was able to remove the old base using a hacksaw, several hours, several bandaids, and lots of sweat. Installing the new base was simple - it only took a few minutes, 5 screws, and installing the old wheels (which fit perfectly). Now instead of spending $180-$400 on a new chair, my old chair is working good as new ("AFTER" picture). I weigh about 330 pounds, I will update this review if the base fails in the future, but it seems pretty sturdy. I want to reiterate how difficult it was to remove the old base. If you have a crack like mine, know that there is a metal ring on the piston that digs into the plastic, basically fusing with the base. No amount of hammering will get it off. You will need to cut it off like I did, though interestingly the base was pushed so far up that I could have just put the new base on the bottom and it would have worked fine (2 bases!). I think if I get a new chair with a plastic base in the future, I will hammer off this one and use it again instead. Plastic bases are trash.

Perfect Replacement or Upgrade so far!
I had replaced the gas cylinder in my older office chair first, it ended up sinking through the base and hitting the floor, making the chair unstable and uncomfortable. So I decided to try replacing the base with a metal one instead of plastic, and this works great so far. Feels much sturdier, and the angle and material gives you a slight height boost as well. Works with standard size gas cylinders as well, and assembly of the base is super easy and quick. Honestly the hardest/longest part for you is going to be getting your OLD base/cylinder OUT of the old chair, that was extremely difficult for me, you should be prepared with a Rubber Mallet, some WD40, and possibly a Pipe Wrench, and bring some muscle cause all that stuff is set by weight and if you have an older chair like me, it was ROUGH to come off, even after doing it recently to replace the gas cylinder. Good luck! No issues so far, will update if necessary.

Great chair base so far on Day 1
I like many others, had the plastic base and wheel catching in carpet and ripped out the bottom of the stand. Loved this chair after decade or more of chair, it was very attached to it is base. We ended up taking a reciprocating saw to remove the base from from the chair. This metal base is awesome and sturdy. I have the skate rollers and took a light tapping with mallet to get wheels on base. Hoping the chair now lasts until I retire in a few years as this base is very well made if tapping it out to put on a new chair (if needed) doesn't work it would just have to be tossed if chair fails. This base is solid and I highly recommend it if you need a new base for your office chair that only has a base issue. I would also suggest to purchase if you are buying a new chair with a plastic base. You will be saving yourself trouble in the long run. The wheels are on this chair base for life!

very strong and easy to assemble
i needed to replace a broken chair base for my favorite office chair, and this was perfect. i was skeptical at first when i saw how it was assembled in parts since i was expecting a single cast piece, but the square hollow bar is nicely finished and very strong, fitting together very well and the screws are purely to secure the legs. my little plastic spacer thing arrived broken, but it's a cosmetic piece and was easily glued back together.

Casters not included.
The product seems great. Very solid, easy to assemble, and well packaged. The only reason I did not rate 5 is the primary picture of the product and description are slightly deceptive. The picture shows it has casters, so I assumed it came with casters. The product description says nothing about "casters not included." So now, I have to wait another day and pay more money to get casters.

This was purchased to replace a broken polymer chair base. The assembly is easy and looks great. Good for heavy people as well.

Do not buy!
Buyer beware! Just dropping a line to say even though these are rated at 2400 lbs., you'll be lucky if you get them to last at 350lbs. I'm a pretty big guy and thought these would last a while, but the welds on these are seriously lacking, mediocre at best. I approached the company looking for a replacement of just the leg that broke, and they couldn't accommodate that, and said that they would offer a 20% (I guess, since there are five legs) refund. I was a bit upset, so I asked them how that worked, and then I was ghosted. No response whatsoever, so I have since found out their customer service is lacking, as well as their product. Take my advice, look elsewhere. You can see from the pics that the weld is terrible on all of the legs, and I'm at 340 lbs, nowhere near the 2400 lbs they claim. What a joke.

Se ve que estos soportes son soldados a mano, por las malas reseñas que vi yo creo que mejoraron la forma en la que hacen las soldaduras porque se ven mejor hechas cerca de todos los ángulos

Bought as a replacement for the ABS plastic base on my chair. The black metal low profile base comes in a shoebox sized package. Assembly is required. There are 5 spokes, a central Hub, and a cosmetic plastic cover. All parts are individually plastic wrapped to protect the powder coat. Also supplied is a packet of m6 hex bolts and an allen key/hex wrench. There is only one way a spoke will fit on the hub and the spokes are identical. My hub had two drilled holes per spoke but only the one closest to the center had threads to receive the bolt. There is a reasonable friction fit on the spokes so take care to align the the holes for the bolts when sliding the spoke onto the hub as it may take a little bit of force to move it around. Base is exactly the same size and height as the plastic one it replaced. Center opening is a standard 2"/50mm and my gas lift fit perfectly. No wheels were supplied but again the spokes have sockets for a standard 11mm caster and the wheels from the original base fit perfectly. Assembly was straightforward and took about 15 minutes. It was delivered at 12.30 and I was sat in my chair writing this review by 1pm. Reassembling the Chair was straightforward (!! remember to put the plastic cover on the gas strut first!)! Probably the most difficult bit was pulling the wheels off the old base.(firm grip and steady pull while twisting) My immediate impression is that it feels solid and sturdy. It seems well made with clean looking welds. I'm a big fella and use my chair daily. If anything goes wrong I'll be back here to tell you about it. Tip. Check on the hex bolts after a week or so, and regularly after that as they will almost certainly loosen over time. Tape the allen key to the bottom of the chair so it is handy if you need it.

I bought this steel replacement for a plastic cheapie which was fitted to my Melokea S1 chair, this failed after only 6 months use, despite it claiming to be "heavy duty". I was tempted to go for a one-piece aluminium part, but the one I was looking at was only rated for 400 lbs, whereas this one is 2400! The package is neatly packed and fits very precisely together, 5 Allen keyed bolts holding the legs onto the very solid steel central part. Took no more than 5 mins to put together, but don't forget to put the plastic guard over the end of the seat post BEFORE fitting the post into the base, as once you've sat on it, it's difficult to remove!! There is no hint of movement in the legs themselves once the Allen keys are fitted, given the quality of the steelwork and the precision with which they fit together, I can see why this item is relatively expensive (I paid £43) but over all I think the product is good value for money. If only chair manufacturers fitted decent bases in the first place..... but I guess this would make them a lot more expensive. I'll certainly never buy a chair with plastic base again, particularly now I have this metal one! I went for a nice set of soft rolling double castors as well, much nicer than the originals. So OK I have spent as much repairing the chair as it originally cost, but at least I know the base won't fail!
