A tool you hope you never have to use.
But when you do need a come along, they are invaluable. I've used mine to winch a 5000lb tractor onto a trailer. Aside from taking three hours, the job was done without drama. Saved me $300 on a wrecker.

Good and economical buy
I had a few fence posts that were leaning a bit too much, but the fence was still good. I bought this to pull the posts back into place and it did it with zero effort. Now I use it for other miscellaneous jobs and it works amazing. I even used it to straighten a bend radiator core on a car and it was awesome. Well worth it.

Low budget price means it needs some finessing
So I've bought plenty of stuff on Amazon, but never felt compelled to write a review until this come-along winch because I can help others with a couple pointers. I bought a "used" return, and as I expected it's actually still brand new. But it only took me all of 5 seconds to figure out *why* it was returned! The bolt through the drum was over- tight and bone dry, zero lubrication - which means one needs Herculean strength to pull the wire out! Tip 1: Pull that bolt part way out and spray some WD40 Lithium Grease in for lube. When putting the nut back on, remember that the drum needs to turn, so just snug (perhaps some blue Loctite while you're at it) instead of Hercules tight. Tip 2: If you have any level of arthritic fingers, you'll struggle, too. Perhaps the release will break-in more and be easier to hold open after more use, but holding that little second release lever open while spooling out the wire is a pain, so far. It'll do the job I need it for and I know I'll find more uses for it with other projects. But out of the box, it'll need a bit of fine-tuning to operate well. A wrench or two (I only needed one), aerosol lithium grease and some Loctite so the nut doesn't loosen and fall off (or check it periodically and before each use). All in all, I'm glad I saved myself a few bucks with "used" because I probably would have had to do all the same things at the full price, anyway.

Impossible to unwind. I upgraded to the NEIKO brand.
Junk. Poorly made. Impossible to get the Cable to release for the first time use.

You don't get what is pictured!
I researched pullers for a day and decided on the Big Red 4-ton because of the lever for the pawl spring as shown in the photo on Amazon product page. I passed on all others because reviewers complained about the pain from the spring when switching from engaged to not. Some other brands had a plastic sleeve over the spring, but Big Red was the only one with a lever. I ordered it and have to use it this weekend, so I don't have time to get one with the sleeve. Very disappointed in the deception. I don't know how it will perform since I just unboxed it. I will follow up after I use it tomorrow. Update - I used it, it had pawls that were out of alignment and I wasn't able to get them to both engage at the same time. After pulling a 2012 Mazda up a 12% incline, the cable started to fray. The tow straps held up fine, but the aircraft cable didn't. Probably fine for putting up fences, but I would be leery of using it for anything that could cause injury - see video

Absolute GAme Changer
I got my ZTR tractor stuck in the sand next to my carport and I mean stuck. Called a neighbor and had him come over with his lawn tractor and it wouldn't budge. I decided that I needed something I could anchor that had pulling strength so I decided on a come along. I looked at all of them and decided on the Torin Big Red 4 ton. I also got a 10' tow strap. I it to a 4x4 fence post and the tractor and it pulled the tractor out with ease. The Big Red is well made and very easy to use. I highly recommend it.

Works
Read write up. Only about 6ft of cord. But works fine.

I am a vanlifer with 10KLB van; I bought this as a precaution should I ever get stuck and need just a little help getting myself out of a jam. I have seen other vanlifers do the same; just attach to a tree/boulder, attach to the tow hook under the van and just tighten the come-along to nudge the van an inch forward or back and then throttle out of the predicament. I have yet to use it for that purpose (thankful for that!), however I used it to pull tight the snow shelter over my van and it was very handy. Works very well, surprising for the price.

This is not an 8000lb capacity. First use, the cable sliced through the under bracket and the base piece bent. 2nd use, the safety catch slipped out and the vehicle rolled backwards. Cannot get the safety catch back. Do not buy, please. It is very unsafe to use.

Bought this for off road recovery where the winch doesn’t work. It’s perfect for what I need it for
