The dial on this unit is easier to read than the last thermometer I had. The instructions call for it to be set 18 inches above the stove top, but my stove has soapstone inserts at the top and does not reach a high temperature, so I moved the thermometer down so that it recorded similarly to my last one.

The needle is invisible so you can not tell anything. You can not determine if it is in the creosote zone, the normal zone and not the overheated zone. All the zones are the same color !! You can not read the numbers. The black background is lost on my black woodstove. I thought the long needle would be more visible but in low light, you can not see it at all. I have spray painted it white and hope the paint will remain with high heat. I hope the weight of the paint does not affect the temperature reading. Do not make a mistake like I did. My prior thermometer had yellow, orange and red zones with a white pointer and it was fine. This thermometer does not read anything above the normal range even if the stove is roaring and water is boiling on top of the stove. It is possible this is caused by the extra weight of the white paint on the needle.

I have a 1970s Earth Stove insert. I placed the thermometer on the side as the instructions said. The needle quite literally never got past 200 F. So I moved it to the front of my stove right above the door. It’s moved to about 300 F. I’m not totally sure this one is accurate.

Works great. I’ve got my fireplace to 600 last night , very hot .

Although this is quite a small fan, it is very effective. It is extremely quiet when running and continues even as the stove cools. Excellent purchase, would happily recommend.

Having the thermometer to glance at helps reduce the number of times we open the door of the wood stove to check the fire. It also makes it more efficient for the chimney, to keep the stove at the proper heat. It seems to be accurate and the magnet is strong enough to keep it in place.
