Fantastic! (so far)
I bought this ASUS PC from Amazon for $199.99 via a Lightning Deal. I've only had it for two days but I've been amazed by all the features for so little money. I removed S Mode so I could install Brave browser and a couple other things. For privacy, I uninstalled OneDrive, turned the microphone and camera off plus I put a sliding cover over the camera lens. I uninstalled McAfee and a few apps I would never use. This PC has an SSD, an FHD non-glare screen (great picture!), good speakers with sufficient volume, plenty of ports, a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard!!! For $200!!! 12-6-22 UPDATE: After having the PC for nearly a week, I've discovered some weaknesses. I'll start with the 4GB RAM (3.7GB useable), it isn't enough. I had the PC freeze up when I had 9 browser tabs open, it took a while to get the browser to close. I did some testing, monitoring RAM usage via Task Manager and found RAM usage to reach up to the 3.7GB max with only 2 browser tabs open. This is a problem. I've had up to 6 tabs open without the PC freezing up since then but don't want to push my luck. I ordered an 8GB DDR4 3200MHz memory stick from Amazon for less than $30 which I intend to install myself. I've never even opened the case of a PC but I watched some YouTube videos of the upgrade procedure and it appears to be quite simple on this PC. The second weakness I've discovered is the Wi-Fi speed, it's slow. I used Ookla Speedtest to compare the speed to an inexpensive Lenovo 11.6" Chromebook I've had for a year. In the same location, testing one immediately after the other, the Chromebook got more than twice the speed of this PC. I repeated the tests several times, this PC was getting around 200Mbps while the Chromebook was getting around 440Mbps. This was on my home internet with no one else using it. Both were connected via Wi-Fi 5. I can make do with 200Mbps but I would think the Wi-Fi should be as fast as that of a Chromebook that I paid even less for. The third weakness is the battery. The PC will run for a few hours on a charge, which will probably be fine for some people. If you're on the PC most of the day, or night, you will probably need to charge it a few times per day. All things considered, I'm sticking with the 5-star rating because this PC has a lot of great features, I only paid $200 for it, and after the RAM is upgraded to 12GB (4+8) it should be a great PC. UPDATE 12-7-22: Amazon delivered the memory stick today. I had never opened the case of a PC before and it took me less than half an hour to complete the upgrade! I don't think links are allowed in reviews so I'll just say a YouTube video by Cadillac Computer Center showed me everything I needed to know. I'm no techie and this upgrade was easy, nearly anyone could do it. The added memory made the PC function much better, faster, smoother. Great upgrade! UPDATE 12-12-22: I just replaced the Wi-Fi card/adapter with a Wi-Fi 6E card ($20) and download speed doubled! Testing on my home internet with no one else using it, in the exact same location, download was 200+ Mbps just before the upgrade and 400+ Mbps just after. Upload remained about the same, 115-120 Mbps. This upgrade is only slightly more challenging than the memory upgrade because it involves replacing something rather than simply adding something but it's still very easy, just be careful with the tiny wire connector. UPDATE 12-20-22: After the two easy upgrades, this PC has been great. After updating Windows 11 to the newest version, uninstalling some things, installing others and running cleanup, there's 34.2 GB of 117 GB usable storage in use, 83.6 GB free. I'm sure that's plenty for my use but I'm going to add a 512 GB 2.5" SSD anyway, there's an empty bay for it to go into. It will be in addition to the 128 GB SSD, not replacing it. This will be my final upgrade, hopefully it will go as well as the two previous ones. The SSD and adapter/connector I've just ordered only costs $40 so I'll have $287 + tax in this PC, a fantastic bargain! I just realized I never mentioned the touchpad, I don't use them. I turned it off and use a wireless mouse so I can't comment on the touchpad. The fingerprint reader works great. I've tweaked settings, personalizing the PC (gotta have my lime green cursor, so much easier to keep track of, among other things). This will not be my primary PC once the new toy thing wears off but I've been on it several hours every day since I got it and I really like it. I'm retired, spend most of my time at home and have a desktop PC with a large monitor, 640 watt speaker system, backlit keyboard and wireless mouse that is my primary PC. This will be a great laptop to have on hand as a backup and for occasional use. Unlike the Chromebook (hate it) I bought a year ago for such purposes, I like this PC so much that I'll kinda hate relegating it to stand-by status... but my desktop PC rocks! UPDATE 12-23-22: I performed my third and final upgrade by installing a 512GB 2.5" SATA III SSD that is in addition to the original 128GB SSD. Installation was a little difficult simply because the installation kit, which was supposed to work on this PC, presented a problem. A soft plastic piece that is supposed to wrap around the SSD and fit into the PC's bay would not do both, no matter how many times I tried. Eventually, I did some trimming of the plastic piece and made it work. The SSD is isolated in that it doesn't contact anything other than the soft plastic and it fits in the bay quite snugly so it should be fine. After installing the SSD, I needed to make it do more than occupy space and a great YouTube video by Northern Viking Everyday walked me through it. In 'Settings' -> 'System' -> 'Storage' -> 'Advanced storage settings' -> 'Where new content is saved', I set new apps to be saved to the original SSD and basically everything else, documents, photos, video, music, to be saved to the larger added SSD. The original SSD will be the operating system and the added SSD will be data storage, as this old dog trying to learn new tricks understands it... Still 5 stars for this bargain PC! UPDATE 1-8-23: One final(?) note: I read some negative reviews that were based on this PC being in S Mode. It says it's in S Mode in the product title, how do you miss that? I was unfamiliar with S Mode so, before purchasing, I did a quick web search for 'Windows S Mode' and one of the first links to come up took me to a Microsoft site page with simple instructions for removing S Mode (it limits you to Microsoft software). I bought the PC (obviously) and one of the first things I did was to remove S Mode so that I could install Brave browser, Ookla Speedtest and anything else non-Microsoft that I wanted. The people who returned the PC because it's in S Mode could have removed S Mode within about a minute's time and had a very nice PC at a bargain price. It does need the previously mentioned inexpensive memory upgrade but that is extremely easy to do. The Wi-Fi upgrade probably isn't necessary, I did it to take advantage of my home internet's Wi-Fi 6. The storage upgrade probably isn't necessary if you don't intend to store many large files on the PC. I didn't need it but did it anyway, I think I was just on an upgrade kick and wanted to get 'just one more' in. As always, I recommend buying from Amazon and not a third party seller. If it doesn't say 'Sold by Amazon' (defaults to seller with the lowest price), scroll down to 'Other sellers on Amazon' and look for Amazon there. I prefer to buy from Amazon just in case there are any problems, even if it means paying a few dollars more. Due to its many features and bargain price, I really like this PC, still 5 stars! UPDATE 2-8-23: I decided to add one more update, that's because I'm still using this PC for several hours every day. I thought I would have gone back to my desktop PC before now but I haven't yet. The room that my desktop is in has been on the chilly side and I got used to using this laptop in a warmer room. My opinion hasn't changed, everything I've said previously still applies. If I were to look for a nit to pick, I would say that the speakers, while decent, lack bass, but I could say the same about the other laptops I've owned. The speakers are fine for most things but I've been using extra bass headphones for listening to music and watching movies. With all the features this PC has, it seems like a much more expensive one. A good friend just ordered this PC, I hope he's as happy with his as I've been with mine. Still pleased, still 5 stars! UPDATE 4-10-23: Still going strong, still five stars!

Perfect for me!
For clarity, this review is for the 15.6" GTX 1650 version, not the 17.3" GTX 1650Ti version. Positives! This laptop is perfect for me and what I need right now. I am currently in between homes, over the road a lot for work and have all of my stuff in storage, including my main PC, so I bought a laptop so I could continue doing work and gaming while on the go. This laptop is not top of the line by any means, it's no $2,000 laptop with an RTX 3080 or anything like that, but if you want a good mid-range laptop that can get 60FPS on some everyday gaming, this is as good as mid-range laptops get in my opinion. Even on my main, much beefier PC, I've never been one to crank up the settings and enable raytracing, 4k etc. I'm more of a framerate type of person and this laptop does a great job getting high frame rates if you're willing to adjust the settings accordingly. The screen is a clean 1920x1080, lovely quality (though the brightness isn't that great), comes with an NVME 512GB hard drive which is not a bad start if you're not trying to install a Call of Duty game with 100gb patches, but that leads into another glowing positive - this thing is upgradeable and I love it! One of the hardest things about picking a laptop for me is the eventual obsolescence, so in the few times I've bought a laptop in my life, I prefer ones you can upgrade which will allow you to skirt by the expected lifespan for a bit longer. Overall, my complaints a few, but I will point them out. Negatives! Honestly, 8GB of RAM is... well, it's not enough for any modern PC that you want to do more than browse the internet, but this negative hardly counts against it because once again, it is upgradeable! I added 32GB to mine and it runs like a dream now. The fact it ships with such low RAM is forgivable because that's probably why the price of entry is as low as it is. I also had a few problems with the Wi-Fi antenna at first, which I know is not unique to my laptop, but after a few online searches, troubleshooting and settings adjustments, it hasn't dropped the connection for a couple of days, so I think I'm over that hump. My last complaint and honestly maybe the only one that could be considered "major" is the screen brightness. To be clear, I'm talking about BRIGHTNESS, not QUALITY. The resolution is wonderful and the screen is a clear HD experience, but keep this thing away from the sunlight if you want to see it easily... I took it to the park one day and while I could see the screen, I felt like I was squinting, and I had to change my preferred dark mode to light mode just to see the Windows UI better. Once again, I consider this a minor gripe and won't take a star off, because if you're using this thing indoors or in appropriate shade, the screen is beautiful. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable, upgradeable, laptop suited for everyday gaming (as long as you're not trying to push max settings, 4k or raytracing), you won't be disappointed!

It’s been a while since I’ve given 5 stars: See Review
Well , where to begin, ….. I review a lot of tech in my profession and I am very impressed with this product. I initially bought this for business and of course the occasional gaming ;) This thing is a beast still ! I upgraded the ram to 32gb and everything else I kept the same and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it from games AAA titles to video editing and much more . Now, the CPU/GPU is not the newest it’s about 2 years old in the tech world but it still packs a punch, starting from the seller , to deliver , and presentation , it came in perfect condition. It’s been a long time since I had not a single complaint. This was the smoothest purchase I have had in a while . The build quality is great , the I/O has everything you need , it’s all around a total package. I’d say it’s great for the average Joe to a power user. It also is future proofed as everything is upgradable which is also nice. It has a ram card of DDR4 3200mhz that can be maxed out to 60gb’s and super easy to work on. I can happily answer any regular or advanced questions for anyone that has them. This honestly was a steal for the price and a 2 year warranty. I love the screen, it has the matte finish to cut down on glare, I am also glad the laptop is backlit, and I can put it to one color although it can pulse , strobe and a slew of other options but I always felt RGB screams “a 14 year olds first game rig” which I am sure gamers will get it, so it’s nice to choose a color and stay there. The keyboard and trackpad is super responsive, and feel nice. I was actually really impressed with the sound quality as I also use a MacBook Pro for business and they just have great sound but this ASUS just romps ! It sounds good . Another nice thing was it’s actually is as advertised, no surprises and it is specked out the way it said it was . My only suggestion is to immediately jump up to 16gb of ram and you can buy it as a bundle, I’d suggest the “crucial” brand of ram sticks they have never let me down or had any compatibility issues. Obviously there isn’t a whole lot I can say that the posting does not but I can say once actually getting it in your hands the listing doesn’t do it justice , it’s really nice. I’ll say it again the seller was great , I had it rushed shipped and it was here earlier than planned, the box and presentation was spot on and the PC performs , isn’t that what it’s about ? It does the job and it’s durable and well made. If your looking for a entry level gaming laptop that realistically can be upgraded to a mid range gaming PC , this is it . I saw the 2022 version of this TUFF laptop and honestly you’d be best getting this one at this price point which is a late 2020 model and Its basically the same laptop other than internals( obviously). If there was one thing I would like to have change is the bloat these companies put on the PC. I really don’t mind windows 11 it’s a welcomed change. I requested a clean install , unfortunately and I get it , it’s just business and the way these companies work together to make money but it would have been nice to not have to wipe it and debloat the machine. However I will always recommend to do so anyway as it makes a huge difference. That’s really the only meh vibe I had to say about this awesome product and let’s be real , there will always be bloat from anywhere you buy new machine from. Just run a clean install of win11 and you’re golden! Before I forget the battery life is actually pretty good I saw others saying otherwise but again a clean install of windows 11 will definitely improve that, the screen has a decent brightness maybe if it had 1 more level up it would be perfect otherwise this is as close as to a all inclusive total package your gonna get. Great price for a great machine . Best of luck and I hope this helps someone make a decision, if you have questions feel free to ask away , I’m a straight shooter and happy to help! Happy Holidays!

Battery life and performance
I bought this laptop in 2023 and used it mostly for gaming and media consumption. It’s now nearing the end of 2025 and I’ve recently upgraded the battery to the 90wh version. I’d say that this upgrade allows for way longer 3x the battery life of before. With the 46wh battery you’d get around 2-3 hours. In terms of performance, this laptop is by no means a beast. It simply allows for mild gaming. In most recent AAA titles you’re looking at around 20-30fps or more depending on settings. However, for what it offers at this price point, there is no better option I have found. A desktop 4060 can provide a way better experience. If you need more information before you buy, look up yt videos on the 1650 with different games. Also upgrading ram is a great option to get a little more performance out of this puppy. 8gb is definitely not enough in today’s day and age.

Corsair RAM + Update the BIOS + Linux
For a $215 Black Friday sale, I cannot complain. This is a solid budget laptop. Battery life is mediocre at 4-5 hours, but that was expected. I decided to add 8GB RAM with a $20 stick of Corsair Vengeance (CMSX8GX4M1A3200C22). The RAM works now, but initially it did not. To be clear, neither ASUS nor Corsair say that this RAM is compatible, even though the timings and format are correct. The laptop shipped with BIOS version 306, which would not POST the extra RAM. After updating to BIOS version 314, the Corsair RAM works. Not sure which of the eight versions between 306 and 314 actually fixed the compatibility. I reformatted the SSD and installed Ubuntu 22.04. Technically, Ubuntu does work, albeit with some irritating hardware issues. When the lid is closed or sleep mode is manually invoked, the screen does turn off. However, the battery still loses 13% per hour, increasing the battery life to at most 8 hours. The drain was much lower with Windows 11, so Ubuntu is clearly failing to invoke sleep mode (or at least falling short of whichever S1-S4 level Windows was achieving). This means that the laptop must be plugged in or shut down before I go to sleep. Memory management is also substandard. On the original 3.8GB of RAM, the entire operating system would frequently freeze. Based on qualitative observations, as the system approaches the RAM capacity, it appears to be initiating an offload to pagefile without sufficient resources to execute the transfer. ASUS never claimed that this laptop was Linux-compatible, and I can confirm that the combination indeed has issues.

Review from a non gamer user
ASUS TUF Gaming F15 Gaming Laptop, 15.6” 144Hz FHD IPS-Type Display, Intel Core i5-10300H Processor, GeForce GTX 1650, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, Wi-Fi 6, Windows 11 Home, FX506LH-AS51 This is a "basic user" review, not a review from a gamer. I did a lot of research over the last year to replace my 13 year old 13" Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. BTW there was nothing wrong with that computer, just finally decided to get a new one. Note: even a $300-$400 basic laptop would have been an upgrade to my old laptops speed. I bought this Asus from Amazon $100 off for $649 in Sept. '22 I wanted a new computer that was a few steps up from ones that are easily purchased at Best Buy, Walmart or say Target for around $300-$400. I also wanted a computer that I will get more than a few years use of life. 13 years is asking for too much but who knows maybe this one will. Things that I wanted were 15" display, nice sounding speakers, lots of ports, some extra LED status lights, easy to replace battery, backlight keyboard along with a few other features. Not knowing how the speakers sounded or the keyboard key travel felt on this computer, I will say that I am very happy with those also. I will note that even though the speakers are plenty loud enough, they are down and side firing. If they would have put them facing up on the top deck they would be 2/3 louder and sound even better. I do like the base they give. When the computer is sitting on a desk or hard surface, the sound is better as it reflects backup, but while on one's lap. the sound would be better if the speakers were facing up. One of the complaints from other reviewers was the fans were too loud. I do not find this as a problem. In fact they are hardly ever on past the lowest speed, but this due to the fact I am using this computer as a daily driver not as a gaming computer, so it is not being worked very hard at all. I have noticed that when the computer is flat on the desk the fans do ramp up (not very loud) to cool it down. But when more space is given underneath the computer the fans settle down to the lowest speed and one cannot even hear them. In other words it likes to have space under it. The back vents are where the heat exhausts out, intake is from the bottom. The web cam is good in low light and clear. Being that I am coming from an old computer, I was use to having the right/left track pad buttons as separate, not integrated into the the pad. This computer is one of the last ones that still have those separate buttons instead of built into the pad so thumbs up to that. The keyboard back light is as you know is single zone color with settings to be color changing or pick the color you want. It is nice that you can change the brightness. When it is plugged in, the keyboard backlight does not time out. I have researched and there is a setting in the registry editor and this can be changed. Found it and changed it but had no luck setting a timeout delay after last key stroke. It might have something to do with the "Armoury Crate" gaming app, as that is the only place I could find that has to do with keyboard backlights in settings. I will try again later to get this setting changed. I do like the keyboard backlight to time out especially at night, but for now just turning the brightness down is working. It does timeout when not plugged in and is on battery about 45 seconds after last key input. As for the top deck LED status lights they are better than the default usual only 1 or 2 that most computers have. It would have been much nicer to have them on the edge at the front instead of at the top on the back. This would make it easier to see at an angle instead of needing to look down when the lid is closed. The battery LED does change from white to orange and it, along with the power LED next to it, changes according to what state it is in. Power button also has red LED power-on light. I decided to get this with the i5/512gb/8gbRAM. It has the smaller 3 cell 48wh battery. It does not have the 90wh battery. You need to upgrade to i7/1tb/16gbRAM for the 90wh battery. Another one of the big draws for me on this computer was the easy to access inside upgrades. I bought from Amazon also the Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT8G4SFRA32A the 3200MHZ one. It was a breeze to install. No hidden screws and everything right there once the bottom is off. Took me less than 15 minutes to install and that was being very careful as I am a novice computer person. The other open spaces are right there and the battery is very easy to upgrade to the 90wh or replace the smaller battery when that time comes. The RAM I added was 8GB stick to match the one it has from the factory. The slot was open and ready for it. The computer recognized it automatically so it now has 16GB of RAM, a mere $32 upgrade. Nice open spot for another SSD drive so that would also be easy to increase the drive size. As for the ports, I still prefer more USBa ports than USBc ports. I am not at the point where I need a USB Thunderbolt so this was okay for me to not have and this model does not have it. If I was to complain or give any strikes I would be comparing this machine to my very old Toshiba that has lots of LED status lights, buttons/switches, a DVD drive, external removable battery (that now costs well over $150), media keys. So there is no comparison at this price point. This Asus hit all my marks for the price without going well past the $1,000 price point. I am not a fan of Windows 11 nor Windows 10, but that will change overtime or I will install one of those programs that emulates the look of Windows 7. Yes the laptop came with windows 11 installed...at least that is what it has after turning on the first time and it did the auto updates in initial set up. First update took a very short time out of the box, so I am sure it was just updating the windows 11 OS to current. Out of the box there was about 400GB of free space for the user on this 512GB SSD. Adding to my likes for this Asus would be the overall size, the non-glare screen, ability to have it charge only to 50% or 80% to extend battery life. It boots up in less than 10 seconds and the same for shutting down. As said these comments are from an everyday user, not a gamer. Please read other reviews if you want to use this as a gaming computer. This review was written after having it for 7 months. I would recommend this computer.

Okayish laptop
I recently purchased the ASUS TUF F15 Gaming Laptop and I have mixed feelings about it. While the 15.6" 144Hz FHD IPS-Type display is nice and the Intel Core i5-10300H Processor and GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card are decent, I found the performance to be lacking at times. The 8GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB PCIe SSD are also on the lower end of what I would expect for a gaming laptop. The Wi-Fi 6 connectivity is a nice feature, but I found it to be somewhat unreliable at times. The laptop also comes pre-loaded with Windows 11 Home, which has been a bit of a learning curve for me and has taken some getting used to. The build quality of the laptop is decent, but I have some concerns about the durability over time. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, but the backlit keys are not very bright and can be hard to see in low-light environments. The cooling system is adequate, but can get quite loud during intensive tasks. Overall, I would give the ASUS TUF F15 Gaming Laptop a 2.5 star rating. While it has some nice features and decent performance, there are some areas where it falls short compared to other gaming laptops in its price range. If you're on a tight budget and just need a basic gaming laptop, this might be an okay choice, but if you're looking for a high-quality and reliable gaming laptop, I would recommend considering other options
