I recently bought this, and had my first cup today. It is really gross, and tastes fishy, almost like salmon...is this just because it's unsmoked?

I have never had a fishy taste with mine. Maybe you just need to drink it with a bit of sugar? I love this brand of Yerba. Smoked was always too strong for me, then I found this. However I can get it cheaper at Nugget Market in the Sacramento, CA area.

Can you put this in an empty capsule? anyone tried this? Not much for tea but want the benefits.

No doubt you can, but I’d question the capsule’s utility. Remember, an infusion usually uses at least a tablespoon of tea for a cup or two. Even if you really packed it in (which might reduce surface area/gut absorption) there’s no way you could get that much even in a 00. Maybe 3 or 4 caps? Definitely takeable, but means you’re increasing the pills you have to make by a factor of 3 or 4. :/. Another prollem, sort of counterintuitive, but you might worry about excessive concentrations as well. Sure, a single cap might only pack a teaspoon or so, but compressed and pressed against epithelial tissue you’re going to get a hotspot of really high concentration tapering off as radius increases. With an infusion you won’t have that problem as the solution is homogeneous and diluted to taste. On the plus side… slow release? I dunno. If you really hate the taste, you could use a french press or something and try and squeeze a shot glass’s worth of infusion from a cup’s worth of tea. Even worse taste, but you can shoot it and chase it with something to mask the flavor.

Why is there a Prop 65 warning for this brand if it is Organic? Isn't organic supposed to prevent contaminants?

Have no idea but you can look up Prop 65. I thought this was a good product. But I’m sure you’ll do your research if you’re worried.

I use my keurig and drink with a filtered straw. Don’t boil the water. The temp needs to be around 160 degrees F. Keurig: Put 2-3 tbsp of loose leaf in your cup. Press the large cup on the Keurig. Be sure a k cup in NOT in place. Once the Keurig is finished filling your cup with water place your filtered straw and stir a little. If you get some foam on the top you have a good brew. Let the tea steep and cool for a few minutes before drinking through your filtered straw. The straw is also known as bombilla. You can buy good filtered straws on amazon. No Keurig: Same process but just heat your water up to 160 degrees. You can use a mesh ball but I use a filtered straw bc i like the taste and the brew seems more “potent” with a straw. A really healthy tea

This is a great tea that most don't know about. Dr. Ben Bikman has done research on this tea and found that it even promotes GLP-1 production in the gut. I have already reordered this tea a few times. I really enjoy it.

I drink Yerba Mate Tea (both hot and cold) and have tried plenty of other brands and types. I always end up back at Eco Teas for their loose leaf variety because the cost is fantastic and the taste is really good. Yerba Mate has so many health benefits including being jammed packed with antioxidants and stomach digestive benefits. The reason why I love it is because it picks you up and gets you going like coffee but does not have the crash at the end. I brew mine in a coffee press and then depending on how I am going to prepare it (i.e. hot or cold) I will add either honey or Agave to sweeten it. A quick tip for anyone who is new to Yerba Mate: use a good amount of the tea so that you get a nice strong flavored tea, especially if you are trying to kick a coffee habit (like I was) and want a strong tasting, equally stimulating beverage. Mine comes out with a strong amber/caramel color, and somedays when I really want a kick it comes out brown. Also, make sure when you pour the tea into your press that you add a little bit of cold water to it to let the leaves soak and prepare for the hot water. The tea leaves are very powdery and dry, and the water helps to bring them back to life (or so to speak) Failure to do so might create a burnt taste that will lessen the enjoyment of your drink. In the end, I give it 5 stars because of the cost and the fact that it does its job. There are more expensive better tasting teas out there, but if you drink as much tea as I do and you don't want to take out a second mortgage on your house, buy THIS tea.
