The black areas are not raw. They are coated with porcelain enamel as well. Its matte black enamel. If you have immediate rust forming there is a defect in your item.

Arrived broken , but was quite surprise of the amazing amazon services. They send me a new one in 2days and send someone to pick up the broken one. Did not need to print a label or return it to a post office. Seriously amazed by the great services. The product answered my expectation. For me the size is perfect and despise it arrived broken (sound like it had a hard time at the Wearhouse, it probably fell) , the product seems really great quality overall.
