Which size sliding vise is the best for the 4214 12inch drill press

I am using the 4214 in a 12 inch press and it works fine for me. Depends on your individual use. These are stiff initially and require some breakin.

Will this work well with the wen 4212 10-inch variable speed drill press?

Yes, mine is installed on a 10-inch Ryobi. The important information is the 3.25" which lines up nicely with the table slots. Note that no fasteners are supplied. I used 1/2" bolts, one size down is way the little standard 3" Wen vice is supplied (2-with lock washers and nuts). You can use up to 5 on this vice 7/16 ( a little tight at the back) or 3/8 only, or 4x1/2. Check your table thickness also for proper fastener length. I used 1 1/2" length. You still need to square it to the table for best results. Nylon bolts and washers made this requirement simpler. The vice requires tweaking for best results. Once done, this vice gets it done, short of brain surgery precision requirements (hundredths instead of thousands). Does this vise come with the mounting hardware (Nuts/Bolts) so that it can be secured onto the drill press?

My vice was shipped with two machine bolts, washers and nuts. Appears very designed and fabricated at an exceptional value. I paired it with the WEN 4210 10" drill press I just purchased from Amazon, also an exceptional value. I've used these kinds of products for over 50 years and rate WEN one of the best values around. I remember the original American company and still have a their electric wet stone that still works! I think the Chinese company that now owns WEN is trying to emulate their predecessor's value and integrity.

what is x y axis accuracy ?

I measured the movement with a digital caliper and the scale on the controls is accurate. Each mark indeed corresponds to a tenth of a millimeter as indicated. However be mindful that this vise is not a precision instrument. If you reverse direction there is significant initial play in the controls before movement resumes. If you make sure the controls are under tension before you move you should be alright. Just don't expect to get down to a thousandth of an inch or anything. By the same token you'd have to spend many times the price of this thing to get a better product. This was my first purchase of a Wen product and it led me to buy one of their drill presses, and I also just received a dial indicator from them. I've been completely satisfied with all of them.

Very Happy with slide vice, small bit of backlash from bottom slide due to threaded guide not fixed but a floating pin other then that its great value for money.

I got my Wen 4.25 cross slide vise this morning. I don’t know how Amazon can deliver it overnight for free? Box was in perfect condition and I knew I was off to a good start. I unboxed it and started playing with it. It comes with the slides locked and handles off. I assembled it and adjusted it and I was pretty excited about how nice it looked and functioned. I disassembled it and cleaned it up and used valve lapping compound on all the contact surfaces. Lubed it up and reassembled. It works really great for an 80.00 vise. I read reviews about the quality and I think it’s great for the price. You can probably get a 700.00 to 1,000 dollar vise that is near perfect. Everyone would still buy this vise because they don’t want to spend the money on a high quality piece, myself included. I did buy 4 new set screws and nuts to replace the set screws that doesn’t have nuts. It made a big difference because I had screws back off when I was playing with it. I have yet to mount it or clamp anything in it but I don’t see any problems with it. The casting was smooth and looks good also. I wanted a Wilton 5” for my JET IDP22 but I couldn’t get any Dimensions on the base to see if it would work with my table slot locations. It looks small on my drill press… if you are willing to spend some time on it, you will have a good tool…
