JACO EliteProPlus Tire Pressure Gauge with Dually Air Chuck - 160 PSI

Works great.

I had been using an old tire pressure gauge...you know the kind you've used for years. The old gauge was okay for a quick reading but, now that I am off road camping, I need something that was more accurate, easy to use, and (more importantly) easy to see. The dually air chuck makes it convenient to read the pressure on my rear tires since the gauge stays at the pressure detected until you bleed it off which makes it convenient when you are in locations other than a nice even driveway. It really glows in the dark (I tested it) but I don't think I'll be messing with my tires off road and at night without an additional lighting source. I would definitely buy this again if anything ever happened to it which I don't think is too likely as it is solidly constructed.

I needed a reliable tire pressure gauge for pressures in the 60 - 80 psi range for truck and horse trailer tires. The JACO ElitePro had some good reviews, and the ElitePro Plus qualified for free shipping (who knows, maybe the dually attachment might come in handy sometime). The gauge appears well made and gives consistent readings. I compared pressure readings against 3 other pencil-type gauges that are not very consistent, but I got the impression the JACO gauge is probably accurate. The gauge seemed consistent in the 35 psi range as well as the 80 psi range. The threaded screw connection between the gauge and rubber tube can work loose and leak over the course of manipulating many readings, but any leak is obvious to the user and easily fixed with a quick turn to retighten. The pressure reading scale is easy to read (much easier than pencil-type gauges). I'm initially quite satisfied with this purchase.

There are a few things that make this tire gauge stand out to me. One is that it does 0-160 psi. For the most part, I'll be filling up car tires around 30 psi, but my wife has a road bicycle with tires that need like 115 psi, so I can use this gauge for everything. The other thing I'm really happy about is that it comes with interchangeable chucks, one of which is for Presta valves, which is what most road bikes seem to have. I haven't been able to find a Presta chuck anywhere except one or two that look pretty junky. The one that comes with this gauge is quality brass. It also comes with a regular chuck for car tires and a dual angled one for truck tires, I guess. What I really want now is to be able to use the Presta chuck to fill up the bike tires instead of just measure them. It'd also be nice if I could use any chuck I wanted with the gauge. Unfortunately the threads for the chucks are not the usual 1/4" NPT threads. I took the gauge to the hardware store to figure out what they were, and it seems they are 1/8" NPT. I've ordered some adapters from Amazon to see if I can get it all working how I want. I contacted JACO to ask if they would send me an extra Presta chuck since I can't find them like this anywhere, and they were kind enough to do so. Great customer service.

Overall I like this gauge, easy to use and reliable however the plastic used to cover the dial is very easily scratched. Even before I was able to use it for the first time the clear lens had a pronounced scratch.

I tested this analog gauge and compared it with a certified digital gauge and it matched the digital gauge very well, within the limits of the analog gauge. By this, I mean that, with the analog gauge, if the reading falls between two numbers, the best you can do is eyeball it and estimate where in between the two numbers the needle is pointing at. Whereas with the digital gauge, it will display the exact reading to one decimal place. So within that limited ability of the analog gauge, my eyeball reading matched the digital gauge perfectly. Unlike what some of the other reviewers experienced, I did not see any noticeable discrepancy in the readings. My reason for getting this gauge was that a pencil digital gauge I've been using for years was not easy to use. Whenever I pressed it against the tire valve, I had to fiddle with it to get a good reading. After years of putting up with it, I finally decided enough was enough and decided to see if there was a better tire gauge. That was how I found this JACO analog gauge, Its chuck is quite easy to use, with no fiddling on the tire valve necessary to get an accurate reading. However, I decided to get a JACO Lightning chuck to see if it will make the gauge even easier to use. I will update this review after I receive the Lightning chuck and have had a chance to use it. Edit: I got the Lightning chuck and it indeed does work better than the chuck that came with the JACO analog gauge. However, I'm not sure whether it was easier to use because the Lightning chuck was too thick to easily insert onto the tire stem properly within the confined space of the wheel cover where the tire valve stem was located. In my case, the wheel cover had a decorative design that had small open areas spaced around the cover and the tire valve stem poked out of one of those small areas. The thickness of the Lightning chuck causes it to bump up against a wall of this small area, preventing it from inserting completely onto the stem. I had to twist the chuck around to find the right orientation within this area in the wheel cover to finally be able to insert it onto the stem properly and get a pressure reading. The chuck works well in the sense that it won't cause the air to leak while you are trying to fiddle with it, to insert it onto the tire valve stem. It won't also give you a spurious pressure reading during this effort. It will give you a reading only after you have properly inserted the chuck, and that reading will be accurate. It will require some practice before I can easily and quickly insert the Lightning chuck onto the stem with the wheel covers that I have.. Of course, it is possible for me to use the chuck much more easily if I first remove the wheel covers, but that means extra time and step that I would rather avoid when all I'm trying to do is to get a tire pressure reading.

This gauge I discovered has a pressure scale better suited for high pressure tires over 80 plus pounds. If you want a gauge for motorcycle or standard car tires you be happier with a model designed for up to 70 or 80 lbs. The scale will be easier to read. I returned this one and opted for a digital model. Motorcycle tires are sensitive to pressure and The digital should be easier to get a specific pressure.

Going to trust JACO that their gauges are highly accurate. That being the case, this seems well built and easy to use and read. PLUS they offer a warranty. Until and unless it proves me wrong, this will be my go to.

It does not worth the price. It’s not precise by 8psi lower. I did compare with Tirewell inflator gauge and Milton 533.
