Decent if you put the work in
The cast Iron beds are great at this price. The design is simple and easy to disassemble (you will need to) The tracks and the table top appear to be true (or as near as I can detect). - but.... The machine was delivered will all the Allen bolts loose - all of them. One bolt (from inside the the table) was rolling about the bottom of the box - be careful taking it out. The cast Iron is a bit porous along one edge of the base - looks like the casting was that way up - doesnt affect the actual use, though... The machine itself needed a fair bit of filing of the mating surfaces they we actually rough before I could get the movement to have a reasonably consistent feel. The bearings on the adjustment wheels are not good - will replace when I can get round to it (just about usable). All in all EXCELLENT - provided you put in about 2 hours work. At the price though, its worth a punt.

OK with some work.
Like other reviewers have said, this table needs work to get it running effectively. Although the table top on mine was well greased. There was zero grease on the slides, screws and bearings. On stripping it down to check the rest, I found a bearing set wrongly assembled. Also unlike the product photo, mine didn't have a cover for the fore and aft screw. Easily made and quite important. Special spanners are required to adjust the bearing end floats. After about 2 hours work, its OK, but not great. Comes down to the bearings. The slides do seem to be machined well.

Do the dials have backlash? Yes, but so does my Bridgeport. Use an indicator. Do the knobs on the handwheels spin? No, neither do the ones on my Bridgeport. If you have enough grease and oil on your hands, you can't tell anyway. People complain about some silly things. This is a perfectly functional X/Y table shipped from the other side of the planet for a little over $100 US. I needed a sub 4 inch X/Y table for a Pantograph I was building and this fits the bill. The dimensions in the pictures are wrong, kind of. It's listed as 5 inches tall. That's the height to the top of the handwheel. The table height is 3 7/8 inches which was a pleasant surprise. For those interested in other missing info, the T-slots are 0.5 inch (12mm), the T-slot spacing is 2.5 inches (64mm), and the T-slot length is 13.5 inches (342mm). The only thing that needs improving is the rectangular pieces of bar stock they used as a dovetail gib that's cammed sideways. For a Franklin and a Jackson, they couldn't be bothered the put a proper parallelogram in there (profit margins). Easy fix with some bar stock and a chamfering insert cutter. 9/10 total quality. 10/10 for the price.
