Expected Quality Realized
This is a heavy duty, quality built, well engineered security and storage solution for my ‘06 TJ. Very happy with the installation and especially the recessed build of the cover that prevent items stored on top of the cover from sliding off. One suggestion: it could really use some means of securing tie downs, bungies, or straps to secure items on the top shelf. Otherwise, a great addition to my jeep.

Installed fine in my TJ without carpet.
I recently got a 04 TJ as a bad weather flood vehicle for getting to work as a first responder. It is a soft top so I wanted some kind of locking box to secure things. I ran across this and as I was planning on taking out the back seat anyways it fit my needs perfect. I pulled out the seat and the carpet and installed the box following the directions. The directions sucked at times and the pictures were terrible so some things I just had to figure out. Though it says the box is to go in with the carpet I had no issues not having it. The side pieces did lean inward a bit but I don't know if this was from no carpet or how it was supposed to be regardless. When I added the rear plate it all straightened up and is nice and tight. On the top I bought a floor mat and cut it to size giving a nice look and a non slip quieter ride for items I put on top. Inside the box I bought some magnetic touch lights that really light up the box at night. Also being magnetic I can easily remove them and use them elsewhere as a work light around the Jeep. The box is dead quiet with no rattles, ding, pings, or creaks. I am very happy with it and think it looks great. The only things I did have to do is add some soft velcro to the bottom of the side trays. They can reach and hit the fenders both scratching and banging them. The soft(loop) velcro made a nice buffer and all is good. I used the trimming from the floor mat to make little mats for these too. One note with not using the carpet some a the bolts holding the sides into the floor did not tighten all the way up. I did not see this as a problem though as the directions actually say not all the bolts are needed. Mat I added: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010UMZO3A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Lights I added: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074C8HCF7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Update: 8-1-21 The box has been great. I just stopped in to show what I added to the top of the box giving me more options, storage, and uses. I added some adjustable tracks to strap things down, a 50cal ammo can for dry storage, and a 2.5 gallon Jerry can. It turned out just like I wanted.

Lockable Storage!
This product is made for several applications so the directions needed some editing for YOUR Jeep etc. Due to this, it was a bit of a struggle for my wife and I to get it installed. Took several hours. BUT now we like it! I ordered some rubber mats (regularly check for water getting under the mats and generationg rust) to install in the cargo area and on the top of the Jeep lid. I will also glue a thin piece of matting under the trays and inside the trays. I will use tool box matting. You can loosen the nuts holding the two trays to help you align the height of the box to line up with the side bolts and then once all the bolts are in you can tighten the tray screws in the proper position. After it was all together, I applied some dilectric grease on all four areas where the sliders roll. It made the lid slide much easier. I also drilled holes to install safety stop bolts on the front corners of the slide rails so the lid cannot come out of the tracks when the lid is lifted up! One thing that disappointed me: in the photo that was used to sell this product the lid seemed to stay lifted up on its own. This was not the case on mine. I had to use a stick for now. I will look into finding other methods which are safer. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO ANYTHING THAT I LISTED HERE. I JUST LISTED HOW MY WIFE AND I PERSONALY INSTALLED THIS TUFFY VAULT IN OUR 1992 JEEP WRANGLER YJ. Best of luck!

Just what I needed
It isn't perfect, it's a little out of alignment. I'm not sure if it's because I'm missing the original hardware for my Jeep and I improvised, or if it's because one of the walls (passenger side) is bent a little (that's how it was out of the box). So when I close the lid I have to hold the one side in just a hair in order to get the lid to lock in place. Other than that, I like it. I'd love it if it had a hydraulic or gas lift on it to keep the lid up, but I'm not sure how that'd work because of the way it closes (I'll look into that at a later date and update you all if I figure it out). Like any security system it's not perfect and it won't hold forever, but I'll feel better about having the top down in the grocery store parking lot now. I definitely recommend this. I've looked into other security boxes (that's basically what this is) and for the price of this one, I don't think you can go wrong, my biggest worry was always if I rolled the Jeep all my tools and gear, plus the box itself, would come crashing down on my head. With this, it's secured straight to the body and is lightweight enough not to be ripped out of place if you roll (that's not to say that if you have a lot of heavy object in the box it won't be ripped out). So yeah, I recommend this.

Versatile, strong, secure
Okay, I have had this a year now. I love it. In honesty I have yet to lift or remove my top at all. My purpose was to be able to put my dogs back there on occasion but they ride in front. I feel very secure knowing my entire rear hatch is still and locks with the tailgate. I added power locks, so it locks with the Jeep and unlocks with it. When I go shopping I can shop for 3 months worth of food because I have two levels. The steel is thick, you could sit on it with ease. It’s sharp looking (either side has a jerry can holder) I got the jerry cans that look like gas cabs butcare locking tool Boxes and I bolted them down from the inside. I also have an extinguisher under the jerry can mounts.
