Why is there so much room above where the sights are? Is it in case you upgrade sights and theyre larger?

I guess that could be a possibility. From a design perspective I can’t imagine the case being closer to the sights. You would run the risk of the sights catching on the case as you are trying to draw. That could cost you precious seconds in a situation where time matters. Just my thoughts. It doesn’t really account for any real additional space in your waistband and it’s concealed so it’s not an aesthetics issue.

No because the molding is different on gen 2 and won’t snap into place to keep secure in holster.
