Great little tool for squaring, small, smaller blocks and piece units
This is such a practical item for squaring in quilting. It rotates easily so that you do not have to move your fabric piece to get to another side of your square or pieced unit. This results in less cutting errors, because you’re not moving the material to square all four sides. Instead, you are rotating the mat underneath the material to access each side of your pieces fabric or square. There is a base under the mat that stays in place as you rotate the top unit. I have the larger version of this product and purchased the smaller version. It works well with smaller pieced items or squares. I especially like that it is small enough to sit right next to my sewing machine so that I can trim and square smaller pieces without moving to a larger mat for squaring. The surface is like the self healing cutting mats. It rotates smoothly and yet it stays in place while you are pressing down on it with a rotary cutter. I have had the larger version of this and this version and have had no issues with it falling apart or durability.

Great Price for Product
I must admit that I have only had my cutting mats for a week (I purchased the 8" square and the 18" square.) . So far so good. The surface of the mats is really wonderful and heals quickly. As far as I can tell, the rotating part does not detach from the base; I like this feature. If I find I am incorrect, I'll amend this review. Also, the mat turns just a tad more stiffly than my Martelli round mat (but I don't really like the surface of my Martelli rotating mat) and my 8" Fiskar's mat. The Fiskar's mat does not heal well, so I really like my new rotating mats much, much better. The square 18" mat is really great for large squares that my Martelli cannot handle, another plus. Also, the bases of the mats are solid and stay put when rotating and the mats are nice and sturdy, not at all flimsy. Finally, the price is quite good especially compared to Olfa, Martelli, and Fiskars.

8 inches, or 7...?
Edge to edge it is 8 inches, but the grid is only 7. Imagine a quilt block with a .5 seam allowance. It is fine, rotates nicely. Lots of complaints that it doesn't spin well or that it smells... Nope. Spins nicely, does not smell. A decent product at a decent price.

Excellent…no smell that I could detect and smooth rotation. Very useful to use with my 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” BLOC-LOC ruler for squaring up HST quilt blocks. I did think that the product should be noted that markings are for 7” x 7” (and not 8” x 8” which is the overall size ), which I did not notice at the time, but not a problem for me
