Q: someone please tell me how to put the batteries in this thing!

Thanks for the question. To do this, first you need to remove the rubber cover from the thickness gauge, or at least lower it. on the back of the thickness gauge you will see the battery compartment

Q: Does this measure paint thickness on plastic? Ex. Car bumpers

The ultrasonic thickness gauge cannot measure coating thickness.

Yes it should as long as it's a smooth surface and the paint isn't overly thick
