As an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Houston, I have become well aware of how students, in this digital world, struggle with grammar. Writing full sentences in what they would call a "formal style" is not second-nature to them. That's why I'm so glad this workbook is available, and I intend to put this book on my syllabi from here on out. Author McLendon writes in a coaching, cheerleading style, not lecturing or preaching. After each section, from parts of speech to verbs to nouns to sentence construction, she gives a few practice exercises, which I think is especially important -- to try out your new (or revived) grammar knowledge. I think this book would be especially helpful for non-native English speakers, who struggle with our lovely, but sometimes ornery, grammar. (I have seen this in my classes consistently.) But for ALL of us, this book is a reminder that grammar is not a pain, but a joy. Buy it or download it, and begin or renew your love of the English language, and of grammar's role in meaningful communication.

Excellent explanations and practice pages. I needed an affordable book to review English grammar for my online TEFL courses. The perfect book for me.

Look, this book is very informative and helpful but the one flaw it does have is that the answers are literally on the same page as the quizzes and questions. They couldn't have an index in the back instead???? Weird. But good if you can look past that irritating flaw.

Good book a lot of information. I'd say Jr high to high school age. Just not quite enough activities as I was hoping for

I am a high school English teacher, and this is far and away the best grammar book I have come across. The explanations are clear, concise, and often entertaining, and the quizzes are excellent (if short). I can't recommend this book enough, given the multitude of impossibly wordy and confusing grammar texts available for use with high school students. Get it, you won't regret it!

I bought this along with a few other various workbooks as I graduated a decade ago and felt that it was time to revisit some educational topics. This book does a good job of easing you in and explaining everything in depth. Sometimes you will likely find it to be almost too easy, but then another topic will come along that has been long forgotten and you will learn something new. I greatly appreciated the size of the book, it’s easy to keep open while you work and seems to be well constructed overall.
