Amazingly stunning & old school....

With so many variations of this watch online, it's hard to know what model you might be receiving: 1B, 1BEF, 1BDF, 1BJF, 1BVT. I believe 1BVT is the newest variant and comes with the full retro metal packaging. That is what I received and I'm much relieved. The older 1BEF model is supposedly smaller (34mm), with a metal casing, and 30m WR. The 1BVT conversely is 36.3mm wide, a bit thicker, and has a plastic case. It is also supposedly100m water resist, according to it's press release, but I'll never be confident enough to test that out. While I like the idea of a metal case, I've owned a plastic Casio in the past and it proved to be both light and scratch resistant. The metal versions seem to be more prone to scuffing, and owning many scuffed up old casios from the 80s, I decided to go with plastic. The fact it is also larger and 100m WR just drives home that choice. My older F91w or whatever is ~34mm and very slender; I forget I have it on and it never gets in the way. The 1BVT is ever so slightly more noticible on my wrist, less like a bracelet and more like a watch, but still substaintially less annoying than virtually every automatic watch I own. I've confirmed that I received an original as best I can. There are lots of fakes out there but this one isnt and it has the level of qualtiy you would expect from a casio. Reading the watch face isn't hard, but it's harder to sneak a peak at the time with the watch than others. If on a date or having an office meeting, I get really try to avoid making it obvious that I'm looking at the time. The EL backlight technology seems to naturally cause the LCD to have lower contrast than non EL displays, but it is easier to see in the dark with the EL on a least. You generally are buying this watch as a fashion statement IMO, and less for it's function, so whatever. The band is like an egg shell black or very dark grey. Metal. Pulls on my arm hairs from time to time, but nothing I notice usually. Adjusting the band to fit is a pleasure and is adjustable by millimeter increments or so. It has never fallen off my wrists before, but the clasp can come undone if enough tension is applied. The colour scheme of the watch doesn't match my skin tone at all really. I suspect it would be better on darker skin rather than my pinkish skin. Still, with a long sleeve work shirt, perhaps something darker and more formal, I can pull it off. The watch is thin enough that it can slide under a shirt cuff fairly easily and the watch band is very thin as well. Overall, not the greatest value, but that price tag also makes it a bit more exclusive. The camel/silver-colored 34mm variant is far cheaper and works/looks better as an every day bracelet style watch for me personally, but I just couldn't resist getting this 1BVT. Definitely a unisex watch, but smaller alternatives with the same style exists for those with really small wrists. Mine are 6.5" in circumference, which is average for a man I'd say.
