A really delightful tiny kalimba!
This little instrument really holds its tune! When I received it, it was completely out of tune… normal for something like this… and with one of the tuning hammers from my full-size kalimbas, I hammered the tines into tune. That was about a month ago, and the tines on this little kalimba are still in tune! I am very impressed! It comes inside a cute little case, with a lanyard, so you can wear it like a necklace. It does not come with a tuning hammer. You would have to buy one separately, or use one from another kalimba. It’s sturdy, made of solid wood, and the wood is very nicely polished. This would make a great gift for a child, or use it yourself when you’re feeling bored standing in line… it’s very quiet, so it won’t bother anyone around you. It might attract some curious attention, though. The price is great, it’s a cute, well-made little kalimba. Since this is only 8 tines, your musical repertoire will be severely limited, but it’s nice for fun. My other two kalimbas are top brand names and professional quality, with 34 and 36 tines, so I have some good comparisons to draw from in giving this review. I think this is a great buy! If you are new to kalimbas, this is a great little thing to introduce yourself to the kalimba playing method and sound!

Superb Quality, Great Price, Fun to play,
Impressive Quality. Super good price. They were on sale for $5, so I bought one for each of my 7 grandkids. This one comes with a very nice, durable protective case. That’s what sold me on this particular one. It also comes with a long string necklace, which seems like a nice way to help keep it from getting dropped and lost while playing it. There’s also a short piece of dog tag type chain if you prefer securing it to a back pack or purse. The music it makes, is not loud when played by fingers. One of my adult sons pointed out, that the keys were too close for him to be able to play it with his big fingers. I’m hoping my 12 year old, (the only serious musician), will make a simple music book, so the rest of the kids, can learn to play some serious music on these awesome little instruments.

Nice unit and packaging
Really like the unit in general and the packaging is very nice. It's difficult to see the engraved finger (key) numbers, and I would rate the overall sound as okay. Low volume, but to be expected from a miniature.

Cute but sound is ehhh...
Purchased for my son for Christmas. I bought the regular size for my husband and knew my son would love a smaller one. The included case is nice so are the ball chain and necklace attachments. My son was excited when he opened it but we were all disappointed with the sound quality. It's low, the wood piece isn't hollow like the regular size and so the sound really doesn't resonate. My son lost interest as soon as he started playing because he couldn't hear the sound when his dad was playing too and just wanted to use the regular one which defeated the purpose of having an instrument for each. I wouldn't buy again and will probably end up purchasing another full size. If you're thinking about this as a novelty or so you can play on public transit without disturbing anyone it might work but no guarantee you'd be able to hear it if there's any kind of noise around.

Decorative Music Maker
I purchased these a lunch meeting gift for a group of friends. They were a hit. They are being used as a decorative trinket that can make music when bored.

Disappointing trash. Not usable.
This "kalimba" is absolute garbage. I literally threw it in the trash. Out of the 8 keys, only 3 of them made a musical note (although even these were very quiet, weak, and tinny). 3 of the other keys made shrill, harsh buzzing / metal-on-metal rattling sounds. The last 2 keys were almost inaudible, producing a tiny sound with no sustain. And none of the keys are tuned. But fundamentally, this is not a useful or viable tool for making music. I would not recommend this to anyone, not even a small child. Spend a couple dollars more and get a real instrument.
