Quietest Filter, Great performance!
Powerful filter for my 29 gallon and quiet too! It has this low buzzing at higher levels but you can lower it so that goes away. The build could be better quality though, the emperor pro 450 which is my old filter has a thicker and stronger plastic and this one feels softer so it may not necessarily last as long. The durability in that way seems rather low and prone to scratching although I think that this piece is more function and customization over form, it is simple in a good way and not over-engineered. The size is excellent! Far smaller and fits the same needs in power to my old emperor pro 450, I highly recommend for a 29 gallon over the tidal 35 since it is adjustable. Ease of cleaning? This is the easiest filter to clean! It has a clip you push away and you can take the whole media basket out and click it into the filter top so water does not go everywhere when you are moving it to a bucket with tank water. Great filter! I highly recommend.

Excellent Design by Seachem
SEACHEM TIDAL 55 : The design of this filter is fantastic. Unlike all the HOB filters I’ve used in the past, the pump and impeller on the Seachem remains submerged in the tank allowing it to self prime. Just plug it in and it immediately begins to push water into the filter housing. This setup allows the pump to run at full speed continuously with flow adjustments that allow the user to control the rate water is released back into the tank from a trickle to full blast. Also, there is an adjust that allows you to use the filter as a full time skimmer or full time, down piped intake filter or any combination of both. That feature is very cool because normal skimmers included with other filters attach to the intake pipe and rarely pull enough water to work properly. Another feature is the pull out basket that holds the filter media. Just release a sturdy plastic lock and the entire basket pulls out. Allowing you to walk it to a sink or trash can to dispose of the dirty media and reload. No dripping water all over the house and no mess. They even include a universal heater clip and wire guides to attach your heater to the filter for a clutter free, compact tank setup. This filter is affordable, well built, runs silently and is completely serviceable including the pump and impeller. The Seachem design is a big step forward for HOB filters. Highly recommend.

Quiet and Amazing
8/19/2021: I've had this filter for a few months now for a 40-gallon and it's doing a great job of keeping the water clean. I test the water every now and then and it's doing great against nitrites and nitrates. The Seachem matrix combined with the sponge is doing a great job, and there's extra room so I added a carbon pad. It's also super convenient when it comes to cleaning. Maintenance is such a breeze with this. I clean the media basket once a week with a water change, and clean the impeller if the water in the filter basket looks dirty. The filter is extremely quiet. When I first started using it there was a buzz from the motor, but it gradually disappeared and now I cannot hear it unless I lean in. I had the same experience with the Seachem 35 so I'd say not to worry if the filter is a little noisy at first. This one has a waterfall sound when the water flowing out hits the aquarium water. Not super loud because there is a flat surface that breaks the speed of the water before it enters the aquarium. It's just like a trickling kind of sound. I find this sound relaxing. I work from home and the aquarium is close by so I enjoy hearing it in the background. The Seachem 35 does not have the trickling sound, maybe because the water force is not strong enough to start with. I originally bought this as a backup to an Oasi canister filter, but now I realize I should never have gotten the canister filter. The canister filter was a nightmare to maintain. Weekly water changes were OK because Oasi makes it easy to clean the pre-filter, but further maintenance was such a pain. You have to clean the tubes with a super long brush and clean all the sponges in the canister. I usually did this with a bucket of filter water in the bathroom and usually it was a mess and a lot of hard work. Those days are so over. Listen, I took have watched a lot of Youtube videos of people taking about what a breeze it is to maintain a canister filter. Well, it's not a breeze. One day I hope to upgrade to an 80 gallon, and if and when I do, I plan to get two of these going instead of a canister. I highly recommend this filter.

Great HOB filters except the skimmer.
I think these are great HOB filters. They last, they have great features such as the pull-out media basket, the pump in the tank so restart works without worrying about a dry filter, and the heater clip is a good idea. The only thing I don’t like is the skimmer feature. I have a couple of these filters so I plug up the skimmer with aquarium silicone sealer as soon as I open the box. Problem solved.

Silencioso, tiene buen espacio para material filtrante. Los materiales son de buena calidad, tengo con el ya casi un año y no ha fallado.

One of my local pet shops just replaced all of their AquaClear filters with these. So I decided to try out a 55 tidal just to see for myself. I'm running one Tidal 55, Aquaclear 50, and an Aquaclear 20, on my 75gal aquarium. Definitely a large improvement compared to the Aquaclear 50. A larger media compartment without larger outer dimensions. Greater water flow, and a lot quieter pump. The water outflow is lower in the tank too. Allowing you to have lower tank water levels. The intake is variable in length, and can be removed if you only want to surface skim. The filter primes every startup. Unlike the aquaclear filters. Which sometimes don't prime, even when full of water. The motor was a little noisy when I first installed the filter. But has become completely silent after a week of operation. It measures in at 32db average. Whereas my aquaclear 50 measures at 43db. The black plastic blends in nicely with a black aquarium background. But the bright blue dials stand out in the tank. If they were also black in color, it would definitely look better. Another minor downside is that the surface skimmer cannot be fully disabled. It's always drawing a little bit of water. This could be a problem if you have lots of duckweed. As the plant can be sucked into the filter, clogging the foam quickly. Overall, it seems to be the new top HOB filter. Same cost as an Aquaclear. With greater media capacity, quieter operation, greater water flow, and reliable self-priming.
