I used this to house a meter for my 5-20 outlet in my garage for my car charger. Used a set drill to punch a hole in it. To make the hole in the lid, I used 3/8 drill bit in each corner and a jig saw, worked out great.

Bought two. One for power supervision. One as JB for 60A circuit.

Wall thickness is 0.15" so you may need rubber grommets with a groove width of 3/16" or so, which you can find on Amazon but not in hardware stores. Easy to drill for small projects (use a step bit for large holes) but strangely, the bottom has raised letters showing dimensions with arrows, and little 1/8" x 1/8" feet, both of which are a nuisance. The dimensions are useless - that is time-of-purchase info - but if you must have them there, RESESS the dimensions into the aluminum, don't use RAISED lettering. The 1/8" tall by 1/8" diameter feet will likely scratch anything it is placed upon so you need to add rubber feet anyway, and they make keeping the bottom flat when drilling or mounted the box to something else difficult. Those two nuisances were why I dropped it by one star.

I bought this because it was very inexpensive and I wanted to check it out. I was blown away by how well made it is. The powder coat is professionally applied and thick. The casting is thick and accurate and fits together, seals. It is defect-free and has all if the qualities you would expect from a more expensive item.

Nice, heavy duty aluminum box with good finish.

The box is cast aluminum using a soft alloy. It tends to snag drill bits quarter inch or larger. I recommend using a drill press and a vise to hold the box when drilling. I didn't and broke a drill bit. I was able to finish my project satisfactorily.
