Caterpillars, Bugs and Butterflies (Take Along Guides) Review: Informative for kids - Beautiful illustrations, lots of information and can be used as an insect field guide for kids. It's geared more towards the over 5 kids - the information is lost on the little ones - but is great to have in a children's library. For toddlers and beginner book lovers, try National Geographic's Little Kids First Big Book of Bugs. It's more of a picture book that will hold their attention better. This book is a great one to move them into later, as they're attention span grows. Review: Great book for budding entomologists - Great book for budding entomologists. This book is full of facts, wonderful pictures and projects. There are places to journal things so it's great for kids to really learn about and study different bugs, butterflies, etc. My kids are obsessed with anything entomology right now, so this is a great way for them to capture what they are learning in a book/journal. We also have other books from this same company and love those as well. This is a great series. We love that it's not just about reading facts and stories, but also includes projects, journal pages, etc.

Great series! Love them all
Written so well. Just the right amount of info, lots of good facts, great pics, and some really fun memorable things for kids too, whether it’s silly names for bugs or possible science projects. Helped my son overcome some fears of insects.

Great introduction to garden bugs
I bought this for my 4 year old son after finding a couple of tobacco hornworms in the tomato garden last summer. The author did a good job balancing the content and picking the most popular bugs to cover. The tomato hornworm is covered, but not tobacco hornworm. But that's just a little detail I can easily gloss over. Although the text is small, the illustrations are so good that they hold his attention while I read to him. His favorite pages are the tomato hornworm, banded woolly bear caterpillar, ladybug, and katydid. He also loves the how-to page on capturing a banded woolly bear in the fall and watching it turn into a moth in the spring.

Perfect for nature library
This entire series is perfect for a nature homeschool library or for any nature lover really. We love that they can be easily taken out for field learning. They are packed with all kinds of great information too. Worth investing in all the books like this.

Illustrations are great
Bought in memory of my late grandmother who requested we donate books about butterflies to our local elementary school. The book is informative and would be great for a range of ages.

My grandson loves this book. It came just in time, he will be going to his grandfathers cottage soon and will come in handy, especially with the ruler on the back cover.
