Elfcam® - Fibre Optic Cable in Reinforced Steel for Outdoor and Indoor use, LC/UPC to LC/UPC, OM3, Multimode Duplex, 50/125um, Black, (100 M).

This fibre does what it says. Its sturdy and well enough protected to sit outside. Very well priced. I connected my garden office with this and it worked perfectly, connected first time and no issues with speed. The light armour provides that peace of mine just in case it does get impacted. The connectors are also small enough to go through a 19mm hole in the wall.

I installed 150m of this Elfcam reinforced outdoor duplex fibre optic cable - pre terminated with LC connectors at both ends. At both ends of the cable they are plugged into HP 2920 switches (using the 10GbE module on back with 10G SR SFP+ transceivers). The cable arrives wound on a tall pancake (about 8" tall). For installation, I built a platform that sat on my trolley so I could pull the cable off the pancake without it getting tangled. And then pull the trolley along further. This worked well making the cable easy to install pinned to a wall for most of its length. The 150m of Elfcam fibre optic cable has now been installed outdoors for several months and is working well. I have been upgraded to Full Fibre 910 service and I am getting the full speed at the distant HP switch. It is robust and well built.

When I received this cable, I was immediately impressed by its heavy-duty design, which clearly indicates that it is meant for outdoor use. However, I decided to utilize it indoors, and I must say, the performance has been nothing short of remarkable. The cable provides an incredibly fast speed that feels like lightning, making everything I do instantly responsive. I initially got a couple of these for redundant 10Gb uplinks to run up the outside of my house to link upstairs and downstairs for internet access. Since then I have bought a number of these to use as 10Gb uplinks between my network switches in different rooms. Being black they look good and don’t stand out, so are fairly inconspicuous. The build quality is excellent, and they function great providing high performance 10Gb backbone for my home wide network. Given their build quality and durability I would say they are good value for money. I would highly recommend.

I've a 10Gbps switch upstairs and another 10Gbps switch downstairs (behind the telly) each with a 10Gbps SFP+ I needed to link the two together in order to have my whole home network running at 10Gbps. The ISP service is 1.2Gbps and I'm preparing now for the to-come 5Gbps and 10Gbps services where I hope the ISPs drop the latency to sub-5ms, 1ms would be my preference. ;-). The routing the fibre took was: From my study, into the attic, into 5m of 27mm conduit along with two other outdoor CAT8 cables, under the roof tiles (~4m), out via the eaves, down the back of the downpipe, into the living room via a hole drilled in the exterior wall (same route as the Virgin Media coax). During that process this fibre was pushed, pulled, squeezed, dropped on the ground, bent (not violating the min bend radius), taped/untaped into a bundle of cables and finally secured using velcro. And at no time was I in any way concerned about the wellbeing or structural integrity of this duplex fibre. If you know anything about SFPs then you'll know that unless you specifically pay A LOT for multi-rate SFPs (1Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps) then they only operate at their SINGLE published rate. I'm running generic Amazon single rate 10Gbps SFP+ (~£15 a pop) in my two 10Gbps switches and my LAN ping times are sub 1ms and 100% reliable. Buy with confidence.

Robust cable and stood quite a lot of movement when being pulled around gritstone walls and through metal shroud. The fiber cable is somewhat easy to work with and can handle the odd tight bend when quickly undone again. Managed to maintain my full 10Gb as expect.

Nice fibre. I bought two, BUT one had the fibres swapped at one end of the cable. I thought it was faulty but the fibres are fine, they just needed to be swapped on the connector. Not hard to swap them but clearly a quality control issue.
