It helped me so much that I had to buy it as a reference for whenever I need advice or ideas on how to help me out during difficult moments. I’ve been having a blast reading and annotating this book before bed. I love that the chapters are laid out by topic so if you’re looking for help with something specific it’s super easy to find. My book did come with slight damage (creasing around the corners of spine) and dirt on the dust jacket. Review: Loving it - Update, I finished it and it has been so helpful to me I can back a second time just to make sure I had given this book a positive review! Has been sooo helpful for me. It is everything I said before below, it has got me excited to process my thoughts/feelings/actions and I feel the improvement. I would equate it to the feeling being a month or two into exercising consistently, you never want to lose it after that. If you want clear, helpful knowledge on ways to promote a healthy/thriving mental state I could not recommend this book more. Old review: I’m about 1/3 of the way through and just had to say something. It’s interesting, practical and concise. Doesn’t claim to be the know all just gives the reader helpful, useable knowledge. As a healthcare professional I couldn’t be more happy with how this book is presented and how easy it is to open up and gain some useable knowledge each morning. Definitely recommend.

Great resource!
There's guidance for almost every life event. I like that psychological concepts are broken down to be easily understood. The title says it all, there's so much I did not know, but learned.

Good, Quick, Basic Overview
Julie does a good job creating an entry point that’s easy to understand and gives clear indicators when you should seek therapy.

So Much More Than a Self Help Book
I can't even begin to explain how amazing this book is, but I will try my best. This is definitely a book that I will keep on hand from this day forward. The chapters are not long and drawn out so they are easy to absorb. The issues that are discussed are very relatable! It would be impossible to find a person that doesn't identify with at least one subject brought up. The authors writing style is easy to understand so it keeps you on track and focused. The exercises explained in the book are extremely doable. If you're searching for a self help book for any reason, definitely give this one a shot. If you like it just half as much as I do then you'll be glad you read it.

for those in their self-development journey.
*Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?* is undoubtedly a well-written book tailored for its intended audience. It offers accessible and practical advice on navigating life’s emotional ups and downs, and for readers who are new to self-help literature, this book provides a solid foundation. However, for someone like me, who has read extensively in this genre, the content didn’t quite resonate as deeply as I hoped it would. Perhaps it’s because I’ve come across many of the concepts and suggestions in similar books, making this one feel less groundbreaking. While the advice is valid and well-articulated, I found myself wishing for fresh insights or novel approaches that could truly set it apart from others in the field. I’m always seeking opportunities to grow, learn, and evolve, which is why I picked up this book in the first place. The promise of practical tips and guidance was appealing, but unfortunately, I didn’t come away with much that felt new or transformative. That said, I believe this book would be a valuable resource for those at an earlier stage in their self-development journey.

I enjoyed this book. It’s well laid out and easy to read. The writer covers enough topics to get you started and going on a mental heath journey. What I found most useful was her look at values. It did get me started on thinking about my own values and from what she explored I started to understand I did value the values of fairness and bravery. There’s also a great section regarding anxiety. I only went through anxiety mildly but going through and writing as encouraged questions asked in that section did help me explore some of my issues. I’m glad I got it and would recommend to have or gift. It’s lovely, useful and safe.

Of all the self-help books I’ve read, this is the one that felt it will actually help. I love the way the author puts it like ‘my goal with this book is to share therapy techniques for those who do not have access to therapy’. She explains different challenges we all have to face and then offers different tips and techniques on how to navigate them. Are there new never-heard-off techniques? Not really. All are things we all know (or at least have heard) but it’s good to see why they work and how they work. Good to have this reminder because change happens through repetition, not ideation.

This is not your typical self help book, it’s written by a therapist who shares the tools she actually uses in the therapy room with her clients. Things that actually work - and what doesn’t. For someone who doesn’t have the time or the money to go to therapy, or just wondering how to better understand and live with their emotions, this book is a must read.
