MUCH better than I'd expected!
I'd read some negative reviews that worried me when I initially purchased the Okapi, but now that I have it, I love it. It's definitely not a Chinese knockoff, real cherry wood, carbon steel, very sharp out of the box, polished finish, tight blade joint, and the ratcheting mechanism feels stronger than I'd anticipated. It even came with oil in the blade joint! Great quality and a lot of care for such a cheap knife!

Love it
Got mine from CAS Iberia. Not a sharp knife but when you sharpen them they do OK at edge retention for1055. I am more about the novelty and fun with this knife. Has a great history too from South Africa to Jamaica, to a famous rock star who carried one. I won't get into all that but research it. Its all interesting stuff. Fun to fidget with too.

Disappointing
Although an interesting piece. The knife won't take or hold an edge. Disappointed

Ratchet knive, three star!
Love this blade, definitely brings back memories of my youth, 'west indies' the carbon blade needs a little sharpening but not much, the wood definitely is not the same quality as in years past but with a little sanding and some coconut oil, it is perfect. If you grew up with one of these "ratchet" knives you can open with one good flick of the wrist. And for $16 well worth it to have it!

Value
The absolute best low dollar everyday carry knife. I have beaten and used this and sharpened it over and over. I have many different really nice great quality knives, this is one of three I carry the most.

Really cool knife
This is a really cool knife but it is rough. Closing the blade is crazy sketchy…but that is part of the appeal of the knife.

Disappointing example
I was just on the cusp of sending this knife back. The box looked like it had already been opened and hastily closed up. The blade had a lot of wobble, both lateral and axial. The grind was terrible: the proverbial butter knife. The presentation side of the blade looked as if patination had already started on the exposed portion of the blade. My overall impression was that someone had already returned this knife as unsatisfactory, so they sent it out to me. I decided to see if it could be salvaged, instead. Dunno if that is possible. I have yet to come close to putting an edge on it, even starting with my coarsest stones. I will probably have to resort to power tools. They must have better examples on the shelf. Buy in person, or be prepared to return for exchange or refund.
