A great guide to plan your trip to NY

I used to love the older version of these eyewitness guides, and still buy one each time I go to a new place. They're great for reading in advance, to help plan a trip, but are heavy to carry around. The challenge for a book covering a city like NYC is there is so much to include, so it can only really skim over things, & it stops being useful. For example I lugged mine to the Met, only to find there was only 1 page covering the whole museum. I should have just taken a photo of the page & left the book in the hotel! I'm sure earlier editions had more detail on major attractions, but feel this edition now goes for breadth (lots on outlying boroughs etc) rather than detail. So, good for reading in advance, but the Top 10 guides are more useable when there, especially for a short trip.

Disappointingly not the same DK quality as older guidebooks we have. Much flimsier cover and thinner pages - bog standard book not a durable travel book. Have to really bend it open to read the pages so even with one quick read through it has become bent and won’t lie flat.That being said, the content is as you’d expect from DK so will be useful for our holiday.

Only museums and galleries

Seems perfect for a week in the Big Apple. Can now match locations with Trip Adviser to book some trips on a well-informed basis.
