Perfect for banisters
We have two of these - one at the top and one at the bottom. We love that they attach to the banisters in a non-permanent way so that we won’t have to repair the banisters once the kiddos get older and we don’t need these. They were easy to install and are easy to operate. Added bonus for keeping our dog on a designated floor. Build quality is excellent, and they look good too.

EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!
Super easy to put together & install. We have a metal rail as you can see so I needed something I could attach to the metal AND wall mount! It took me forever to find a gate with good reviews for TOP of stairs & came with the correct hardware! I'm so glad I finally found this. We have a 10 month old so this has been up for about 4 months now & it works great! Very sturdy so far, opens & shuts easily & with one hand. It does not close on its own so there was a little reminder period for our 13 year old to "Close the gate." But I have no complaints! This gate is PERFECT for us.

Need longer screws
This is a great option if you have a banister you don’t want to screw into. The installation was pretty easy but the strap broke on the first gate we got. Many reviews said that the screws included with the gate weren’t long enough and they were right. We used the trim spacers and the screws didn’t even make it through the drywall. I had to go out and buy #8 - 3in wood screws. I didn’t use any plastic anchors but I don’t know if they would work even without the spacers.

Perfect for what we needed
With a double banister, this gate was perfect for what we needed. The straps were able go around the railing in a way other devices would not. The directions leave a little to be desired and it did take a second person, but looks good and functions well.

Don't buy this - unsafe
I really wanted to like this gate. The systems securing the gate to banisters without drilling are fairly effective and simple. Installation was a little bit of a pain - you have to get it just so if you want the gate to swing and lock correctly. I ended up having to put shims in between the top parts of the gate and the banister. Ok, a little bit of a pain, but it seemed like we were in business. Until my 11 month old casually pulled the gate open! You see, I hadn't noticed that two of the four cams that are supposed to hold the gate width adjustment firmly in place were a bit loose, so a gentle pull from a baby can change the alignment of the gate in its catch enough to swing the gate open. You can't do anything to adjust the tightness of the cams - they should be tight enough to hold the adjustment of the gate arm in place in a closed position, but mine certainly weren't. I contacted Summer Infant to get a fix for this unsafe defect. I didn't hear back after a few days, so I contacted Amazon, who were really helpful in letting me send back the defective gate for a refund. Today, about five weeks after I contacted Summer Infant, they finally sent a reply. This is unacceptable customer service! For a concern about a life safety product for babies, Summer Infant has got to do better. Don't waste your time or money with this product. It's not worth the hassle or risk.

Please include more spacers
My biggest complaint about this gate is that they don't include enough spacers. The main bar that has the hinge connections has 3 screw holes to secure it to the wall, but they only give you 2 spacers. I have a low profile baseboard, so the lowest hole in the bar is above it, so I need 3 for this one alone. On top of that, the my banister has a 1/4 round around the bottom, so the bar that was being strapped to that one needed to be shimmed out as well since the bottom of both bars need to be against the floor for the latches to line up with each other. So I would have loved 2 more for that as well. All in all, I would have needed to make 3 spacers and like most with toddlers running around, I didn't have the time to make them look as nice and clean as the provided ones so I have removed 2 stars for that. Would have cost them 50 cents to include 3 more spacers and have a nice clean and complete installation. Also, not sure what height most railings are, but mine was right about where the top strap needed to go around the banister. Since the bottom of the bar is supposed to rest against the floor, the top strap height is pretty limited. I'm not screwing into the banister so putting the strap below the gate latch is out of the question, so the top strap height is not really adjustable to anything that would work. Would be nice if that strap coordinated to be at a height that was not where the railing connects with the banister. The strap now goes under the railing. Might not be the best, but it feels pretty solid when I shake the gate assembly. The only other negative thing I have found so far is that the adjustment slide is not smooth at all. It is quite hard to get the adjustment just right. You have to pull so hard, that it slides past where you want it and have to keep messing with it. My plan was to leave the gate in all the time and slide it to the minimum width so it wasn't blocking the hall all the time, but that was out the window immediately because it is so tough to slide it in and out. Luckily, the whole gate lifts out of the hinge pretty easily, so we just pull the gate out when we don't need it. It's is a little annoying since we have to store it somewhere the toddle can't get to it because it is quite heavy. All in all, I would probably buy it again, but would be super pissed again when I have to spend time cutting and painting spacers because they don't feel the need to include all the pieces needed for a full assembly. Really drives me up the wall how cheap these companies are.

Great gate for stop of stairs!
This gate would have been perfect for not drilling into the banister at the stop of our stairs. I did have to return it, but only bcs it was too tall. So that was my mistake for not measuring correctly.

This is, for me, the ideal staircase baby gate. No need to drill holes or make a mess. It comes with all the stuff you need to just strap it in place, then remove it later on down the line when it's no longer needed. It's quite strong and easily adjustable. The only downside is that opening and closing it is a little bit finickier than a more thoroughly installed model, and the foot that it sometimes has to rest on can cause scuffs on your floor over time. I put a plastic slide underneath it to prevent this, and just remain a bit aware of this potential so as to not cause any permanent damage.

Super easy to set up however, it does not quite fit properly on my banisters. I had to stick the hinge bar to my banister using the additional sticky pads provided to raise it so it lined up properly, this makes the foot at the bottom not able to reach. We UPDATE: the “locks” that adjust the width of the gate portion are not good our twins have figured out how to open the gate very easily as the “locks” don’t really lock in place and they can just shimmy the gate over a bit and it swings open. I’ll upload a video when I catch them in the act.

This has got to be one of the worst baby gates I have ever used. The product is made of cheap plastic. I’ve had to super glue some of the pieces on and the gate closes either on top or at the bottom, but not both ends. The system to tie to a banister also is not sturdy enough whatsoever, I’ve had to add tie wraps to it. Would stay away from this product. Very dissatisfied. I’ve had to buy another baby gate after a week of use because my 9 month old is already able to open the bottom part.

Wraps around the bannister no screwing into the wood. Maybe marks the wood a little but can be touched up Height is good. Adjusts to larger widths with the flick off a few clips. Sturdy
