Q: Is lego luigi compatible with the lego mario power up suits?

Yes. However, the one that I got does not fully engage with any power unless you squeeze it. The pants are too loose to engage the switches fully. I will have to exchange it. I did come up with a quick bandaid for this issue: stick a piece of folded paper in the back between the battery cover and Luigi's body. This will cause Luigi to fit in the pants a little tighter so the power suit depresses the switches enough. The real reason for this issue is because Mario is fat and Luigi is skinny.

Q: Box says smart device required. What is the smart device used for?

Smart device is used to download the LEGO Super Mario app. Then to use the app to make characters make extra sounds.

Q: Are the instructions included this time, unlike in the Mario set?

No they are not. You need to use a phone and download the app for instructions.

Q: Does the luigi allow for two players to play at once? one with a mario and one with a luigi?

Yes, the app will allow them to link together
