I have a Slumberjack XL cot that I use for historical reenactments, camping, and other general uses. In years past, I also used to tent with an air mattress. That all changed when I started to build a teardrop trailer and I vowed I would purchase no further tents until I was done, by dint of encouragement. Well, my schedule got out of hand on the teardrop project, and soon enough I needed to go camping but didn't have a tent. I didn't *want* a full tent, and wanted something simple, something for one person, and something *quick* and easy. So around June I started looking for tents that fit my cot. Sadly, I couldn't find any that weren't insanely expensive. A few were made in years past and discontinued by other manufacturers, and I didn't feel like blowing 300 bucks on a self contained bivy cot. That's when I found this tent. I'm a big guy, at over 6'2 standing, and stretching out I take up even more space. I loved my XL cot because it actually *fit* me and made for a good sleeping environment, so when I realized that this tent would fit that cot I was excited. I did some research and found a video review on youtube and pulled the trigger. Shipping was fast as always, and I pulled out the cot and tent and gave it the once-over to test it before going on my trip. Cot set up in normal time, the tent set up in amazingly fast time. Unfold, lock the joints, and lock the main lug nut, then velcro your tent to the cot frame. It's that simple. Rain fly is super easy as well. It's cozy, but the offset arch gives you headroom which is needed. This tent would be beyond awesome if it weren't for a handful of things. I won't deduct stars because it may just be me, but these are the things I noticed: * Yellow. My god is this thing Yellow. It's a small nit-pick, but I prefer cooler colors in my tent. The instant this sucker picks up sunlight you're awake. * No sling- there's no mesh sling like most tents have these days. There's one little tie strip that you can make do in a pinch, but having a little loft is really nice, especially when space is at this big of a premium. * Oddly enough, the fly mesh isn't as breathable as I'd like it to be. It seems insane- 60% of the tent is mesh. But I can feel a * definite* temperature difference in spring/summer camping with the door open/closed (5-10 degree difference). I guess if I had to be precise, it kills off very gentle breezes and airflows, and creates a dead air pocked above you. * The rain fly also pretty much is either on or off. It's more of a cover than a fly. Still useful in a pinch, but if I was on a cot and it looked like rain was on it's way, I'd spread a tarp down over the cot before re-attaching my tent. It won't go over my slumberjack. If you get a Teton cot, you might have better luck. * I really wish it was about a pound and a half lighter, putting it into say weekend backpacking territory. You won't see that though because of the poles and the joints and the main lug, which add a lot of weight but really make the system foolproof. * Finally... I sweat when I sleep- problem of being a big guy. And that being said, cots cool off at night, and there can be condensation and moisture from sweat. Usually this isn't a problem, but on the second night of my first trip with it the fog rolled in seriously, and I woke up really, REALLY early feeling... soupy. Like, you know when you have a cold, and you've got the cold sweat chills? Yeah I felt exactly like that, only I wasn't sick. The rain fly again is partially the problem for this. Most tents the fly traps a layer of air between the first tent wall and the fly and it acts as insulating dead space, and allows moisture to condense along the inside of the fly and avoid the tent interior. With so much netting and the design of the fly in this tent, that's not the case. I had a choice of stifling with the rain fly closed, or leave it partially open and turn my tent into a sticky, damp, clammy environment. If you're any kind of backpacker you know that this can be fixed in a number of ways, and perhaps a hydrophobic liner is in order here to keep you dry in more humid environments. Don't let those points detract you though. This is a frickin awesome tent. I set up my campsite in less than 10 minutes, from parking to lounging with a drink and reading, and my friends were green with envy. Even moreso, due to the spider poles already sewn into the tent, striking the tent takes about as long as putting it up, and involves no smashing, smooshing, or extreme squeezing trying to get a massive tent to shove into a small stuff sack (Did I mention your tent bag is bigger than it needs to be? SCORE!). It's not luxury. It's not meant to be. But my camping footprint is now about 7 feet by 3 feet, not counting the cooler, and that's *awesome*. If you've got a Slumberjack XL or a similar over-sized cot and you want a simple, stupid easy, reliable tent to just go camping somewhere without bringing half your house, this is about as good as you're going to get in this price range..
