Color is nice but
Anyone who has used henna before knows that it can be a time consuming and messy proposition. The end result can be pretty rewarding however. I have naturally reddish brown hair and like to tone down the red by using an ash brown color. This covers my grays but actually makes it redder. I’ve received many complements after using it. I use henna because I am allergic to regular permanent hair dye, specifically the chemical PPD which is usually in most permanent hair color. While this doesn’t have PPD, if you use it over regular hair dye that is still in your hair you can have a cross reaction. This happened to me. I broke out in hives around my eyes and all along my hairline. So be careful if you are already allergic to dye with PPD and still have some left in your hair. I was made aware of this by my dermatologist after I had to make a trip to see him after using this.

Ash Brown came through- no red!
Hallelujah. This is like the best hair decision I’ve ever made. So happy I bit the bullet. I used ASH BROWN. About 8 months ago, I was talked into some salon highlights on my almost waist length, almost totally virgin hair, and they ended up really brassy. I tend toward a medium ash tone, so I’m not happy with any orange in my hair. Now, once upon a time I had used henna on bleached hair, so I knew how good it was for my locks, but at that time I was down with red. Not now- I hate any red in my hair, so obvs henna makes me nervous. After much research I finally chose this (thank god my local vitamin shoppe was out of Surya cream, and I took it as a sign!). My hair is now a gorgoues, shiny, totally neutral, almost cool brown. Not over ashy, and def not red. Thank god. And it feels way healthier and stronger- the bleach had made it crispy. Also managed to cover the few errant grays that have rudely popped out of nowhere. I’ll update if anything changes, and this goes orange. If you don’t hear from me, assume it stayed cool. Oh, I just followed instructions, but kept it on for an extra 1/2 hour. I also find it’s a lot easier to condition henna out, rather than shampoo it. I get it wet in the shower, and slather on conditioner. Rinse. Repeat with a brush through. Waaay easier than shampoo

Good Color but I didn't follow the directions
Update MAY 2025: THIS STUFF IS PERMANENT and it gets darker with time. Don't use unless you wank dark, dark brown/black hair forever. 2 years later and I'm still growing it out. I made the mixture and let it sit in a warm room for about 8 hours. Then I applied it to my hair. I left it on for more than an hour but didn't exactly keep track of the time... IT WAS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO WASH OUT. And I mean you will probably panic a little. It was very gritty. After rinsing the best you can, use a shampoo that lathers really well. It will help get the sand-like henna out... The day or two after your hair will have a green tinge to it that will wash out. That is normal with all henna hair colors. This ash brown had no red tone to it at all which was very important to me. I didn't want any red. The color lasted a while and covered my greys pretty well. Overall I am pleased with the product but the paste is hard to rinse out and requires a shampoo. I'd really rather not shampoo after rinsing because it dilutes the intensity of the color.

First time henna was a charm
The color came out great. I have natural mousy brown hair with grey temples and for me it is a rich deep brown which is not too red. It covers grey wonderfully. I mixed it into a thick paste with warm water to the consistency of yogurt and left it while I washed my hair. Before applying, I rinsed my hair with a cup of 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water and rinsed it again before drying thoroughly with a towel. I used cream on my hairline and protected my clothes with a towel. For application, I wore gloves and used a brush to get areas like near my ears. It's very messy and you need to keep it out of your eyes. I wrapped it in plastic and used a hair dryer to warm it up. After 1.5 hours, I rinsed it out in the shower. It's sticky but I tried not to use too much soap. Conditioner helps and having a wide-tooth comb to use during rinsing would be helpful. After several washings it starts to fade. It is not a permanent hair color but is easy to use and not toxic. It does smell like hay when wet in the beginning, but that was not a problem for me, LOL. I will be using it again.

Been using for 1 year
I have been using this product for over a year in brown. Havent used this color yet. Color lasts 4 weeks due to gray roots. Which is what my color lasted going in the salon. I have had many compliments in how natural it looks. Does NOT stain bare skin. Use the latex gloves!!!! I tried many application methods. The best for me is a plastic squirt bottle. Like the old red or yellow ketchup and mustard bottles. It is messy. Get it off walls if you get it on a wall. Does not stain sink or bath. I do not find it makes my hair healthier. But, it does color it!!!!!
