I have a few David Day books and they are hit and miss. Just like Day's Heroes of Tolkien, when I saw this title I expected a in world lore book on the Enemy and Dark Powers of Middle-earth. Much like the a-z Tolkien book he did decades ago. Yet this one is a cross reference book on what he believes are inspirations for Tolkien's creations on characters and concepts. There is some colored art pages, which are nice. Yet splattered throughout are black and white images that have been popping up in Day Tolkien books for years. If you ARE looking for a Tolkien guide that feels like it is written in the world of Middle-earth, try J.E.A Tyler.

Una obra que ahonda y profundiza en las historias de Tolkien, basadas en la tierra media. Este tomo en concreto, gira alrededor de los orígenes de las fuerzas del mal en la obra de Tolkien. Sus orígenes tanto en el universo ficticio, como la inspiración de Tolkien para crearlos. Aparte de la profundidad que aporta a la obra, el libro esta impreso a todo color. Aspecto muy bien aprovechado para incluir increíbles representaciones artísticas de este universo. También incluye gráficos y esquemas muy útiles para entender bien esta obra. Es imprescindible haber leído las obras de Tolkien, tanto para entender, como para valorar esta obra. Además, la encuadernación y su cuidada presentación hacen del libro todo un elemento de decoración que suele llamar la atención de la gente.
