Easy to install, makes the chair work like new
Office Chair Gas Lift Cylinder Replacement - Universal Size, Heavy Duty Hydraulic and Pneumatic Shock , Fits Most Executive Chairs (Color Black) Arrived quickly. No problems with device. Fit my office chair perfectly and is functioning properly so far. As long it lasts a year or so, it will be well worth the price. (I'll let you know.) It saved me the considerable cost of a new chair. It is easy to install needing only a screw driver or hex wrench to remove and remount the chair base and a hammer to remove the old cylinder.

Works great. Very strong support, even for a 250 lb. guy.
This fit an executive chair I bought several years ago at an office supply box store. I had a terrible time extracting the old gas cylinder, but eventually read a post online with wisdom that I'd like to pass on to you. IF YOUR OLD CYLINDER GETS STUCK, 1. Spray lube (I used spray silicone lube) and leave it for at least 30 minutes. Spray both sides of the stuck area if you can reach them. 2. If the gas cylinder is stuck in the base (like mine was), then have someone lift the chair several inches in the air and then you hammer the base part, preferably with a rubber mallet to prevent damage to the base. Eventually, the base will not be able to sustain the blows and it will fall to the floor, finally dislodging the gas cylinder. My gas cylinder was also stuck into the bottom of the seat. Eventually, I had someone turn the seat of the chair upside down, and then I had them hold the stuck gas cylinder, which was pointing up. I hammered the rest of the metal seat hardware into which the cylinder was stuck, and eventually the base of the seat fell off of the gas cylinder to the floor. It wasn't the easiest job, but it was the only way I could figure out to get these very, very stuck pieces out. Good luck!

Easy replacement at a low cost
Anyone who has ever purchased an office chair with a hydraulic cylinder supporting the seat knows that eventually that cylinder will wear out, causing the seat to sink to a lower level. A replacement cylinder is an easy and inexpensive repair: for $15-40, you can replace the cylinder, extending the years of use that you can get out of a chair. With new chairs going anywhere from $100-1000, the choice is simple. It took me literally TWO MINUTES to replace the cylinder in my chair. The process is simple: turn the chair on its side, then knock the cylinder out of the base with a rubber hammer (or use a regular hammer or sledge with a block of wood set against the exposed bottom of the cylinder). Next, take a pipe/plumber’s wrench and turn the top of the cylinder free from the bottom of the seat. If things are tight on either end, simply hit the area with WD 40, let sit 30 minutes and then dislodge the old cylinder. There are plenty of YouTube videos available showing the process. Highly recommend this or any other replacement cylinder, especially the “heavy duty” types that can easily support 450 lbs.

Does not hold up to 235lbs.
Worked good for the first few months. But it falls on its own now. I’m not sure why. When I recline in my desk chair all of the air seeps out of the shock and it declines all the way down. All long as I leave the chair straight up and down this doesn’t seem to happen AS BAD, but it does still happen. You get what you pay for, and I will be replacing mine with a heavier duty one.

Great price, Get a pipe wrench with the money you save
This replacement lift cylinder is a great value. At only $15, you really can't go wrong. It fit my chair perfectly - although the chair does sit higher now than with the stock cylinder, this is because the stock one sat further down into the wheel base than this one does. I am pretty sure that is just a quirk of the chair I'm using and not common. Regardless of the height difference, it was actually a welcomed change. Now the chair is sitting much higher, the correct height for my desk. My wife and I hammered at the existing cylinder literally for days, even resorting to heating it with a propane torch and hitting it with a hammer in attempts to get it out and it would not budge. After much searching, I decided to try a pipe wrench as many people recommended. ***PRO TIP*** As soon as we got a pipe wrench the existing gas cylinder came right off. Should have done that from the very beginning, I was able to get a pipe wrench from Harbor Freight for just $6 after a coupon. Best $6 I've spent in my life

I had no idea that one could repair the gas lift mechanism on office chairs. My brother purchased one and replaced it on his chair, and with his recommendation I purchased one as well. It is amazingly easy to replace and makes the chair look and feel just like new again. Saved $100's of dollars not replacing the whole char.

Its is a great gas lift for generic office chairs. Please check if your chair has a generic gas lift before purchasing. Installation of this gas lift requires some mechanical skills. 1. Remove the red cap plastic cover on top of the piston, just hold it with a plier and pull it off. 2. Remove the chair upholstery from the bottom half of the chair, so that the chair seat is taken out of its resting plate. 3. Keep some cushion / similar material to avoid floor damage and turn the bottom half upside down so that the wheelbase is at the top and the metal plate is slightly above the ground. 4. Hammer the old central gas lift rod present in the chair, that sticks out from the wheel base; while hammering, you will notice that it's sinking until it eventually comes off. 5. Keeping the same upside down position, hold the gas lift and hammer the plate evenly from all the sides , forcing the plate to fall on the ground. Hit the plate as close to the gas lift rod, with the plate facing downward slightly above the ground. After a lot of hammering, eventually this would give way as well. 6. Remove and replace the plastic hosing (if present). 7. Place the new gas lift with its red button facing upward onto the wheel base of the chair. Place the plastic hosing back on the wheel base through the gas lift. 8. Now place the plate back on the gas lift so that its flat portion faces upward and it sits above the red button of the gas lift. 9. Simply sit on the plate and release the lock to check if everything works. Move up and down a couple of times and your weight is enough to hold them back together. 10. Place the seat back on the plate and that's it! Enjoy your chair. The product is as good as how my old gas lift used to be working, go for it as its less expensive but of good quality.

This item arrive on time from the supplier and is just as it appears in the photo. There are no installation instructions but you can find videos on line. The replacement cylinder is much taller than stock chair cylinders so you can lift seat higher if needed.
