The House of Staunton 28" Slotted-Style Vinyl Demo Chess Set with Deluxe Carrying Bag

I am really pleased with the quality and price of this chess teaching board. The slotted board itself is about 25 x 25-inches overall with 2.75-inch green and white squares. It is stitched around the outside of the board and also with additional 3 vertical stitching. It has a wooden dowel on top and bottom with a rope strung through the top rod to hang it up. The pieces are black and maroon/burgundy plastic and average about 2.5-inches high (not including the 1.75-inch base that slides into the slot). They are cut in the shape of each chess piece and have plain faces (i.e. no image on the faces). The black carrying bag really completes this teaching set and I believe it is a big selling point. The bag is 32-inches long and 3-inches in diameter with an adjustable handle strap.

Used this to start a Chess Club at school. Great for demonstrating how pices move and discussion about captures. Kids are eager to get called on the move the pieces. Also worked great for club promotion. There pockets are sewn sturdy and the pieces are tough plastic.

This set brings me back to the days I was on chess club. Is pretty much the same my coach used back then. Quality: Board - Seems like is durable, but it hasn’t seem any use yet so that still yet to be tested. It first glance it looks like ok quality. There were about two white squares towards the bottom that had small green stains. Also, I’m afraid of the openings for the pieces, I hope they don’t break with constant use. Besides that everything else was ok. Pieces - This I’m a bit worried, pieces feel like they could break if I’m not careful. Is a thin plastic. Also, I don’t like the fact that the colors they used are black and maroon. I wish these pieces would stand out a bit more, but for the price I can’t really complain. The bag it comes with makes me worried as well because it requires the board to be rolled up and this creates pressure on the pieces openings. Long term this could lead to the holes breaking the board. Overall I’m satisfy, but durability still a big question mark. I’ll update if it breaks easily.

September 2023: 28 inch slotted style Vinyl Demo Chess Set with carrying case. I read and then watched the Queen of Katwe which is about an amazing Ugandan girl who learned and excelled at chess. I remember one scene when I saw this poster in the background in their chess class in Uganda. I thought, I want one of those for my chess club which I run every Monday afternoon at my school. So I got this one. I love it although I haven't used it much. But the pieces are big, the slots are all there and good and nobody's walked away with a pawn and when students look at it they immediately know that I run the chess club. I hope to put it in a more prominent position in the classroom not to cover up important things. But so far I love it. I think tomorrow I will put the FRENCH DEFENSE up there so I can remember forever.

I just started a local chess two months ago. We're ALREADY over 200 members. That's just the adults. God knows how many kids. We're just getting started. Needed a demo board for the group classes. This fits the bill perfectly.
