Really Happy with Product
I bought the Cat S42 as an upgrade from another CAT phone which made me fall in love with these phones. Unlike the phones I've had before, the screen is incredibly strong so I don't have to replace the screen if I accidentally drop it. Very happy. My personal reviews of this even saw others turn to these phones because I've found them reliable, relatively cheap and great quality.

Almost great
I purchased this for work purposes, I'm a multi drop courier. I've used it for a good few weeks now and it's performed perfectly until yesterday. Let's start with the good, the battery easily lasts me a full day of work, screen on all day and in use (approx 10 to 11 hours). Touchscreen is nice and responsive even in torrential rain and a soaking wet phone. I've dropped it multiple times, even down a flight of concrete stairs and it's survived without even a scratch. I also use the phone to knock on doors with to save my knuckles in these freezing temperatures. The phone isn't super speedy but more than sufficient for my needs. I've been recommending this phone to everyone at work as I was so impressed with it but yesterday, it rained, constantly, extremely heavy for around 4 hours, the phone got wet, not a problem I thought as I'd got it wet before and it's been fine, however I had to make a call and water must have got into the speaker as the volume went extremely low and I couldn't hear the customers, they also couldn't hear me clearly. This has now cleared up overnight after drying out indoors and the volume levels are back to normal again but this is a major issue and now means this phone is no longer fit for purpose for my needs so I'll be replacing it. Such a shame as I really like the phone but if it can't do my job then it's no good.

Awful phone
I have owned this phone for a year and for the first time ever have decided to write a review to prevent other unfortunates from buying this phone. I owned a CAT S41 before this, the predecessor to the CAT S42. How mistaken I was to think that this phone would be an improvement on the already excellent S41, or at least of the same quality. The S42 is a massive step down in all regards. The speaker is poorer, with a tiny quality that the S41 never had. It also doesn't like being squished (funny for a tough phone) and the sound becomes unintelligible after it's happened. The battery life is not as good as the S41 by some margin. I am having problems with the screen flickering after only a year. But far and away the worst thing about this phone is the pathetic processor in it. It is so painfully slow and underpowered that it can barely run the operating system, with huge pauses whenever you require it do do anything (loading apps, using the internet etc). I assumed that it would be a similar processor to the S41, but it turns out the processor they have used for the S42 has less than half the CPU processing power of the S41. It is not fit for purpose. Don't make my mistake, avoid this awful phone.

Strong exteria but software doesn't last long so be careful back up files i started to crash
I enjoyed this phone for its strength and ability for the screen to take on so many bashes, but after about six months, it kept playing up by either freezing, crashing, or forcing me to delete apps for storage, but I could not re-add any or fix settings. Ultimately, I had to call it a day and buy a cheaper Samsung until I could afford a new, expensive, robust phone. It was an excellent phone for its price until it gave up on me. I couldn't even transfer files over to my New phone laptop or onto a USB as it was not recognised, and if it were, it wouldn't offload files. I like the phone, but its longevity is not guaranteed.

Relatively basic mid range phone, but very rugged, with a large battery and fully waterproof
This is a low/medium spec phone with a mid range price. As far as functionality is concerned it's relatively limited, but with most of the options the average smart phone has. The camera is relatively limited but takes a reasonable picture in good light (see photo). It has the standard bunch of features found on all phones, such as a rotating screen, GPS, Bluetooth, the ability to use as a Wifi Hotspot, and so on. The screen resolution is lower than many at 1440X720 but still looks clear, and with 32Gb of memory it's very much middle of the road. It works on both 2.4GhZ and 5GHz Wifi and supports up to 4G mobile. What makes this stand out from all other phones in the same price bracket is the IP69 rating, meaning it's very rugged, fully waterproof including submersion, and will stand up to the rigours of an outdoor environment. The rubberised case is pretty substantial and the little hatches to access the USB port and SIM slots have rubber doors. It has a good battery size which should provide a couple of days of use (with standby being quoted at an impressive 35 days), and the charge lead is standard micro-USB rather than the more recent USB-C. I have found this a bit slower to work with than my current mid range Motorola, Android takes longer to load and apps are noticeably slower to open. Still, I do like this, it feels like a rugged "manly" phone, ideal for a hike or to take white water kayaking. I think that at a bit under £240 it's priced appropriate for a fairly niche option. For anyone that needs something rugged for the outdoor world but without the bells, whistles and complexities of high end mobiles, this is a good choice.

No fingerprint reader, no face detect, no Xi wireless charging. Nice features, updated to Android 12, which is a reasonably current OS version.
