This compelling TV series from Executive Producer Sam Raimi (Spider-Man movies) follows the warrior from his humble beginnings as a child born to a beautiful mortal woman and Zeus, king of the gods, to his explosive battles against power-hungry immortals, deceptive demons, massive monsters, and bloodthirsty armies. Review: Hercules Season 1 Rerelease - Pros & Cons - I was pleased to see the re-releases of Season One of Hercules & Xena, and I've added them both to my collection. However, in the case of Season 1 of Hercules, there are some elements to consider in making the purchase of this re-release. Pros: The episodes of Season 1 are in great shape, and well presented. Plus, these DVDs also have captioning for the hard of hearing. This feature was absent in the original Anchor Bay release. Plus, the packaging is also a lot smaller than the Anchor Bay release - a standard size DVD case, with multiple discs inside. Cons: Unfortunately, this Season 1 release contains only the 13 episodes of Season 1, and none of the 5 movies which preceded them as part of Season 1. The other cons, although this is more due to Universal/Anchor Bay (whichever), there is no separate product of the five movies. There is a DVD with just the first two movies, and the Hercules action pack only has the first two movies, along with the three episodes from Season 1 which introduced Xena, the animated Hercules & Xena film, and the Young Hercules movie. A plea to Universal: Release the five films in a separate product if necessary, but please re-release them. And release the full Young Hercules series. It's a great series that deserves equal exposure to Hercules and Xena. Review: When Television was Fun and Adventurous - I hadn't watched this when it first came out. It was the golden age of syndicated television, and would set the stage for the coming fantasy genre revolution. In fact, many of the people who worked on Hercules would go on to work on Lord of the Rings, Narnia, then back to television with Legend of the Seeker. Hercules, even in its day, was a throwback to fun, weekly adventures. A bit campy, and not always concerned with continuous or serious storylines, yet it was an enjoyable escape. In our era, where every show doesn't know how to be anything but dark, dreary and overly mature, it is no wonder people are still watching Hercules nearly thirty years after it premiered. Keep an eye out for early appearances of now familiar stars, or the habit of recasting the same actors in different roles. You'll see the introduction of Xena in three episodes in the first season, though not in great detail (her character wasn't originally meant to survive). She would get her own show in the same universe, though all her circus flipping through the air and other stuff made things too silly at times. Sure, the special effects sometimes show their age, but they managed to accomplish a lot on a tv budget (and these are the people who would eventually do the f/x for Lord of the Rings). The set designers and costumers built a convincing world (though many interesting costume choices). Features a culturally diverse cast that was certainly not historic for ancient Greece, yet felt organic and not forced (and they did it long before anyone else). It's funny how many adults say they watched this when they were kids. Not really for young kids, yet it didn't go overboard with adult references. It certainly wasn't afraid to highlight its beautiful women either. So if you want fun tv again, check out Hercules (and see if you can find the hard-to-find tv movies).

When Television was Fun and Adventurous
I hadn't watched this when it first came out. It was the golden age of syndicated television, and would set the stage for the coming fantasy genre revolution. Glad the remade it and made it affordable to buy all but the last season for some reason, great show.
I really like Kevin Sorbo and thin he makes a great Hercules. I've seen many of these episodes in my younger days and am glad to own all but the last season. Don't know why it's not remade and available like these the first five seasons. I think the picture quality is just ok, nothing impressive. Sound is good. Story lines are great. You can really get into this show and it's packaged well and not just stacked discs. I recommend this to anyone looking for some wholesome action adventure.

Hercules...a Great Way to Spend the Day!
I always enjoyed the series. I taught school for many years, and I always enjoyed teaching mythology. I posted posters and stills in my classroom from this series when we studied mythology and I taught "The Twelve Labors of Hercules." The students enjoyed it almost as much as I. The series is quite good, even though liberties are taken with the myths I had studied and taught. When I read Kevin Sorbo's autobiography about the filming of the series and his stroke during filming, it made me appreciate the series even more.

Let the journeys begin!
This is an initial review of Hurcules The Legendary Journeys Seasion 1 Region 1 Slimline DVD set. The set arrived in good condition and in a timely manner. The set includes 3 DVDs in a slimline case for a total of 13 episodes, 3 of which are The Xena Trilogy, which make up the origin story for Xena Warrior Princess. I tested Disc 1 using a HD HDMI Upscaling DVD Player connected to an HD LCD TV and was able to get near Blu Ray results using the Upscaling feature of the DVD player. The picture is sharp and the colors are vivid. The format is widescreen and stretched to fit your screen. The sound is CD quality and surround sound compatable. The DVD menus are easy to navigate. The only additional feature of the set is closed caption in English. The story is a modern interpretation of a Greek tragety about preseverance set in ancient times. This is a must for Hurcules and Xena fans alike. Battle On!

Where are the rest of the seasons???
There need to be a wishlist on Amazon prime for tv shows and movie. I love Kevin Sorbo and Kevin Smith. I grew up with this show back in the '90s, it's still extremely popular in Europe. I used to watch it in Greece, the last time I went there to visit my family out there, but Only season one.. it does no justice to the show. It's been years Amazon's only had season 1 come already... I'm waiting and so are others

as you know I am sure by now I am a totaly blind person, and of course the reason I like a film will not be the same reason than sosoneone that can see. so, in a way, I take the time to write this in case if another blind person read this. my number one reason to enjoy a film, is if the film have enough talking for me to be able to follow it without having to ask too much questions. and I was really happy with this one, of course I miss all the visual, but I don't care about this, I was able to follow thestory line and I was please. I have only listen to a couple of pilote film and one episode. but I enjoyed it every much. I purchase video so that when winter will be here super strong, My friend and I will have some choices to watch. I know this is not much of a review. but I guess if another blind should wonder, should I get it. the answer is yes. daniel

One of the most popular syndicated tv shows of the 90's was Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Which retold the Greek myths with a unique spin. It led to spin off show Xena; Warrior Princess, which did eclipse it in popularity somewhat. But for those who saw it at the time, this was unique fantasy. With it's tongue occasionally in cheek. It has been a fond memory to it's many fans ever since. The eclipsing by Xena is possibly why Britain never saw a full release of it on VHS. It just stopped about a third of the way through. And we only had one dvd release which didn't even finish all the first season. But if you want cult tv of this nature, the best place to go is Germany. Where you can get region two dvds. Which means they will play on a british dvd player. The box and any inlays are all in German. As is the writing on the discs. But the first screen of each disc here gives you the choice of English or German for language. Go for the former and all the on screen menus will be in English. As will the episodes. This does not alas have any subtitles at all. But there we are. There are seven discs here. You get the five feature length tv movies than began the whole thing. Where one or two actors who would later be cast members appear in completely different roles. The fifth one of these has issues. It was only put together last minute, and thus most of it is a clip show of things from the first four. With one big continuity error also. It's still watchable though. The thirteen episodes of season one that follow are all close to fifty mins in length. They start to develop the format of the programme. Which is a bit more straight laced initially, without not so much of the humour and occasional outlandishness that they would manage later on. It's a start though. The picture quality on the menus looks poor. But on the actual episodes it's really good. Episodes two five seven nine and ten all have audio commentary. Four seven and ten also have video commentary. Which is not something I've ever seen before, so it's interesting. Disc seven does have some extras. Interviews with stars Kevin Sorbo and Michael Hurst. Guest star Anthony Quinn. And one of the production staff. There's also some original trailers for the first season. A blooper reel. Also a feature about how the monsters were brought to life. This disc also has cd rom content. Open it via a computer and you get series trivia. Character bios. Series mythology. A gallery. And a screensaver. It's a very good box set for a show that started well. Then got better and better along the way. It's the only way for British fans to get it. So I highly recommend it.

Fortsetzung ... Battle ON! Zusatz (Okt. 2008): SchröderMedia bringt Mitte November die 2. Staffel in den Handel. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass 3 - 6 folgen werden ...
