Good Grips Stainless Steel Dough Blender and Cutter

Making pie crust is a popular topic of conversation for many bakers. I have used the store bought piecrust, and that is full of chemicals. I learned to make my own pie crust from Martha Stewart's Pate Brisee recipe. It is flour, salt, butter, a tsp of sugar and ice cold water. You want everything to be very cold, so I cut the butter into pats and then put in the freezer. I use ice cubes in the water. I first learned to make this by hand,cutting the butter into the flour with my fingers. It is time consuming, but you get the feel of how the flour feels when it is at its best. I, then, started to make this in my food processor. That works wonderfully well, but the butter is over processed. Then, someone told me that for her best pie crust, she uses a dough blender, and she recommended the OXO. Most of my kitchen tools are by OXO, so I knew this would be quality. This dough blender is perfect, the blades are well made, and sturdy. I proceeded with my recipe, it was very easy to cut the butter into the flour with this blender. The dough felt good, and the apple pie I made had the best crust I have made since I started making pie crust. It is not time consuming, you use few ingredients, and it is good to have the feel of the pie crust. Lots of compliments on the apple pie. Practical Durable Affordable

The handle is nice and thick, which means you can get a really solid grip even with butter or flour on your hand. The "blades" are thick and while they aren't SHARP, they are thin enough to do the job well. It can be easily handwashed if you don't leave it around to dry, or you can stick it in the dishwasher for a super easy clean. Overall a great product and one that I am glad I bought. OXO is a good brand and I have many of their products in my kitchen for various needs.

The best pastry blender I have owned. It is sturdy and sharp enough to cut even cold butter which produces the flakiest crusts and biscuits. The only problem I ever have is cleaning it because it is so sturdy and will not bend (which is GOOD) so I find it easiest to run hot water over it to get as much dough off and then soak it for a bit immediately after using it and then putting it in the dishwasher straight up and down so the water sprays up through the vents between the blades. It then comes out perfectly clean every time. I expect this could be the last pasty blender that I ever have to purchase. Even with the plastic handle, which I was concerned could be the weakness of this gadget, after using it I have no concerns about it breaking. It also fits perfectly in my hand so it comfortable to use and fits well in any of the bowls I would ever use to make dough or biscuits even though it is a bit larger than many comparable items.

This is the best style of pastry blender for chopping whole hard-boiled eggs for egg salad or just the yolks for deviled eggs. It also works well for chopping soft foods for baby food. I bought one like it years ago in Belgium and raising my children and grandchildren, used it until I wore it out. This year I am a new great-grandma, twice over, and I am happy to have found this one, even better designed than the other. Maybe it will become a family heirloom, along with my cast iron, some of it from my mother. Built to last. Five stars.

I always used my grandma's old pastry cutter to make biscuits. It had a couple of problems though. One was that the wires were so flexible that the cold butter usually slipped between them rather than getting cut. Also, on the side of the handle, the metal was sharp and it was attached with a small bolt. If I wasn't careful, both of would cut the sides of my hand when I pressed down with it. The last time I used it I'd finally had enough and ordered this new one. This new one has solved both problems and it's honestly so much more efficient that I wish I'd done it years ago. Grandma's cutter is in the china cupboard now and will be passed on some day.

I bought this for my girlfriend so this is her review. "I've been using a pastry knife for years to make my from-scratch crust and cookies or other miscellaneous sweets which require you to cut butter into flour. My boyfriend teases me about being old fashioned and using a hand-held tool to do the work that a food processor could finish in seconds. I get the validity of his statement, and my only counter is that I am stubborn. I like the pastry knife...easy peasy to clean and stores anywhere, no parts to lose NOR cut a finger off if u happen to grab the blade like that of a processor blade. Just sayin'...so one weekend, he comes and visits and sees that my old pastry knife is just done for...tines are bent and it was hard to cut the butter with misformed tines. He feels bad that I struggle and decides he would get a better newer knife for me SECRETLY. He finds his quarry and when I open the box, I am really surprised. :-) so, of course, a test must be done and as I needed to make blueberry pie for my Dads birthday, I tested this gizmo's crust-making capacity. WOW! It cuts through butter like....like....butter! :-) Seriously! It is sturdier and so it cuts through cold butter with greater ease and less force than my old knife. The process time is definitely down to just a couple of minutes AND it didn't hurt my hand to cut the butter. Very, very pleased. I look forward to more home-made work with this knife. Funciona muy bien. Cuesta trabajo acostumbrarse a usarlo, pero ya después de un tiempo uno aprende cómo dejar la mantequilla y la harina perfectamente integradas usándolo. Se ve resistente, no he tenido el problema de que se doble. Lo recomiendo.

梱包材には包まれていましたが、そのまま袋に入った状態で送られてきたために刃が曲がっていました。一部がどうやっても真っ直ぐに戻らず、仕方なくそのまま使っています。それほど大きいものではないのだから、せめて箱に入れて送付してほしい。
