I needed to cut a 3/4" copper line that goes vertically into the ground. The cut I was attempting to make was a few inches above a 90-degree elbow, which was about 12" below the ground. It was only about 5" away from the concrete foundation and there was a large bush with extensive roots in front of it, so enlarging the hole was not an option. I bought a cheaper version of this product (from a different manufacturer) without the hinged piece, and I was unable to clamp it onto the pipe. With any letup in force, it would pop off the pipe, and I was never able to get a cut started. Consequently, I was skeptical of this cutter, but since it completely enclosed the pipe, I decided to give it a try. Anyway, it worked! I was able to close the hinged piece and clamp it onto the pipe. Because of the position of the pipe, it was somewhat difficult to get enough leverage to turn the clamp, but with some effort, (probably around 8 complete rotations) it made a nice clean cut. While it is more money, I highly recommend this model over others without the hinged back piece that completely encloses the pipe. It is very difficult to get those other types to clamp onto the pipe.

I recently had to replace a water heater and the idiot plumber who installed it took off the supplied heat traps and went copper right into the threaded hot and cold connections. This caused a corrosion that eventually caused a leak. The rigid 34" copper was so close to the power vent that I had no room to use a traditional pipe cutter. With the AutoCut I easily had room to clamp it on and cut the pipes easily..

Would recommend. Close end pipe cutters that will get into tight spaces. The blades had stayed sharp for a while for me and I work in the trade. Will probably pick up another soon. They're durable as well and had gotten rusty but work great.
