Great product, counters orange tones and covers grays
I have naturally ashy dark blonde hair (highlighted), about 15 % grey. I started dying my roots to cover the grey 7-8 years ago and have been annoyed that every dye I’ve tried pulls orange (I’ve probably tried every 6 and 7 level ash or neutral dye I could get my hands on every way I could get professional dyes as a non professional). This is literally the ONLY one I have found that counters the orange and gives me the dark blonde shade closest to my roots that I’ve been looking for. I have tried to find a blue based dark ash blonde dye for literally YEARS (it’s amazing how hard it is to find a dye where the maker tells you what the base color is! Many ash dyes have a green base, which does NOT counteract orange tones effectively). I’ve tried using blue additives and basically creating my own dyes (I would NOT recommend this to people not familiar with hair dye chemistry or color theory), to varying degrees of success, but always with more brass/orange than I wanted. This is seriously a holy grail product for me. I hope they always sell it on Amazon!

Stunning Rich Black Color!
I've had my eye on this hair dye for quite awhile but there wasn't very many reviews (at the time) or detailed information that I could find so I went with a more popular name brand and that was a mistake. I ended up having to dye my hair much sooner than I'm comfortable with because the popular name brand faded so fast and my gray hair stood out like a sore thumb. I am about 25-50% gray and it generally takes color well. I ordered the ugly duckling Rich Black and I am very pleased with the results. It really is a Rich dark Black. It did not dry out my hair And it covered All my gray hair very well. It was an easy pain free process. I did not experience any scalp sensitivity or burning. I've washed my hair quite a few times since and there hasn't been much fading, it still looks and feels great. The color is so beautiful and it really stands out. In fact, my BF came home and I was laying in bed, in the evening so there wasn't too much light And he noticed my hair. He's Never ever noticed when I dye my hair. I think because most hair dye especially black kinda look the same. The Ugly Duckling is not an average hair dye, its what I've been looking for in a hair color. I will continue to use this product!!!

The BEST Cool/White Toner
As a wig hobbyist, I'm always trying out new formulas/toners for achieving the colors I want. This one is the best for cool, high-level toners, no questions asked. There is SO much product in the tube so it's well worth the price. This will turn a standard yellow-blonde 16x3 lacefront WHITE. Be advised though, I mixed it with a few different 20 developer formulas and different developers will vary in resulting tone. The Clairol Pure White 20 developer I think worked the best. But it moves FAST, so watch it carefully because it can overtone. White toning is typically not beginner friendly, so be sure to do your research before diving in. Anyway, love the product and I’ll never buy another brand of toner again!

Elegant violet-based results
Don't know any background on this make unfortunately, but I got great results from this dye and would definitely class it as pro-quality (has the requisite translucency, dimensionality, sophisticated tone and healthy hair outcomes). I used 8g on level 11 hair and because I was making such a jump in levels I knew it would probably come out a little too ash, which is why I went with the gold base. The outcome is a gorgeous red-violet based ash blonde at the proper level. There is a strong duochrome quality to the color - particularly when wet it appears like a strawberry blonde with a smoky violet sheen, which I love! It's not like Wella (my usual brand) in that it isn't a "pure" tone where you would mix multiple tones to get a desired result - it seems to be designed specifically for a direct use (the fact that the dye for the GOLD tone is bright violet upon oxidation should tell you that). So bear that in mind - I would not use this dye for more specific mixing formulations or if I wanted to play around tweaking colors, but the mix is so great in the tube, it's wonderful for what it is.

Fixed my orange hair completely
I stripped 10 years worth level 4 brown dye out of my hair and it was literally pumpkin orange and around a level 7, a level 8 on top and a 6 on the ends. I didn't want to just go back dark so I tried a level 7 blue based ash blonde from Sally's which gave me orangey brown ends and greenish brown roots. Lovely. So I ordered this (6.1B) along with the ash blue additive after doing the color consultation on Ugly Ducklings website. I ordered from Amazon because I'm not a cosmetologist and don't have a license. This stuff is great. It left such a pretty neutral brown. The ash blue additive perfectly "toned" out any of the brass. Also it made my hair SO soft and bouncy and volumized. The Sally's stuff made my hair feel super dry and crunchy so that alone is reason for me to switch. This stuff is just vastly superior. I used to think hair dye is hair dye it's all the same but I guess not.

Did not dye hair as stated
I purchased this product in order to get a way from semi permanent hair color such as manic panic. But the results of this hair dye left my hair with nothing but a brown and very light Hugh of violet. Hair was treated prior to using this product. I processed my hair with bleach on the area I wanted the violet color. Unfortunately the results were double and not what was advertised. I will be using the manic panic semi permanent hair dye from now on to achieve the desired purple effect.
