BEST FINE LINE TAPE AVAILABLE
If you are here buying 3M 471+ FINE LINE You obviously know what it’s for so there isn’t much I can say that would steer you in the proper direction. And if you don’t know, this is flexible vinyl tape used to mask off designs, etc., for automotive paint work. It’s used for masking flames, stripes, really whatever you need to mask off and leave a very nice edge before clearcoat. Because of the cost, this is not tape that you let the kids use to tape papers together. Get a roll of scotch tape for that.

Great as draping tape
Bought as draping tape. I only did a few test runs but I can already tell it’s going to be easier to work with than other draping tape. It sticks much better and handles curves. I usually have to pin to keep draping tape in place, especially over curves. I was able to pull it off and restick without it curling over on itself or curling at the ends.100% worth spending a little extra.

Excellent for masking curves
I'm using this to mask some wheels that I bought. It handles the tight curves beautifully. These photos are before painting. The blue is the tape.

carefull on the bends and dont stretch it too much
This tape is awesome like anything from 3M its has enough strength to hold on and not enough strength peel off paint when you remove it. One thing about it. Try not to stretch it too much around corners cause this will cause your paint to tear off. Overall I reccomend this product for painting anything that needs to be masked off.

471+ or 471?
You need to be careful regarding which 3M 471 tape you order depending on your purpose. I'm using it to mask contrasting color areas and non-skid areas in painting a fiberglass boat. The 471+ tape is more purple than blue in color and has a very aggressive adhesive which when used for masking can lift underlying paint even if it has been curing for some time. However, it is quite flexible, useful for masking oddball curves that you can't make with a circle cutter. I use the 1/8" width for that. The narrow width conforms easily and the strong adhesive allows the tape to stick well when bent and stretched to tight curves. For straighter runs where wider coverage is needed and where I can form curves with a circle cutter I use plain blue 471 in 1/4" to 3" widths, also available from Amazon. My experience is that (no '+' in the model number) 471 has a gentler, but effective, adhesive that is less likely to lift paint and leaves no adhesive residue on removal even when left in place for extended periods.

Worked Great!
Used this tape to make white walls on my golf cart tires. It was a game changer! I originally tried regular Frog tape to tape off the rounded tires. That didn't work out well at all; the tape was just to thick to get a good rounded look. I ordered the 1/8 inch tape first, but realized that may be too small, so I got the 1/4 inch tape for the initial taped off area, then I used the bigger Frog tape to tape up the rest of the tire. No leaks at all from the 3M vinyl tape. It had a nice crisp rounded line. The tires turned out great!

Great tape
Great product. Especially if you live in a hot climate does not delaminate in the heat.
