Already field tested and i approve
For less then a dollar a piece, you really can't go wrong with these light sticks. I keep a couple of them in my survival kit that i have in my vehicle. From what I've read, the green color light sticks are the best color and I'll take their word for it. The hook on it actually is quite handy, I used it to hang in the lean-to i built while camping in the middle of winter... worked well as a nightlight so i could see the entrance and the woods around me throughout the night to make sure no wildlife decided they wanted in. Also handy to tie around the neck with some paracord to keep track of people like small children, heaven forbid your children are ever in a survival situation with you. They do fade after a while but if you're going to complain about that than shell out some more $ for military grade light sticks and stop crying because the cheaper ones don't out-preform the more expensive ones. For me, these produce enough light for the intended purpose Pros - ''Glows'' for more than 12 hours... still ''glowing'' after 24 hours - Handy little clip on the top - Works in all climates/environments.... worked flawlessly in 15 degree winter weather - Great alternative/backup for flashlight, works while wet, no battery needed(5yr. shelf life), not affected by temp (within reason) - Durable.... took a few minutes of intentionally bending it in half back and forth to get it to break (non-toxin anyways) Cons - After 4-5 hours the lighting begins to diminish slowly, but is still usable in the dark up to 12 hours - No sleeve to protect it from bending accidentally, i may find some thin pvc to use as a sleeve

They work just as advertised, great product!
I have been testing these chem lights compared to normal home depot chem lights and these Cyalume seem to be brighter, they do last a whole night and glow very little even 20 hours later. Light emitted is reasonable, don't expect a light bulb worth of light but they do light up very well in pitch black rooms, a full 15ft x 20ft room can be illuminated with one hanged chem light if placed well. I tried chewing on one to see how easy it was to perforate one, and i was unsuccessful on perforating it with my teeth. great quality, does exactly as advertised. Satisfied with my purchase.

Bright glow for a long time
I've been using this brand of glow stick for a long time to mark guy lines that are tripping hazards when camping. They say they last for 12 hours but I've normally seen them last even longer. They put off a substantial amount of light for a chem light. I used these very recently camping up in the mountains and it still had some glow into the second night (and these has already been sitting around for years). It wasn't a lot of light but still enough to mark where the guy line was that I'd hung it off of. I cannot recommend these enough. They really work great, especially for the price. As long as they keep making them the same way they do, I'll never buy anything else. I'd imagine they work great as emergency lighting as well, but fortunately I've never had to use them for this.

Not that bright but very functional
I expected the Cyalume to be brighter, but they are good enough. The stick I tried lasted the whole night. I did the dishes and cooked on this light alone. I also wandered on the darkness with it navigating indoors mostly and a little outdoors. The hook and hole on the plastic handle are good for putting it temporarily to illuminate an area while hanging it on a wire, a crevice on the wall or a nail on a pillar. High precision tasks are not good with this light. You have to put it on top of whatever you are working with. Is bright enough that will not allow you to see beyond it if using directly on front, so I put it on my palm holding it with my thumb and then facing it towards whatever I wanted to illuminate with my open palm being a shild for my eyes. One stick is as bright as a small candle. This sticks are mainly good for moving around and signaling. This truly are emergency lights, for conditions with strong wind and rain, where you need constant lighting on difficult conditions. But even on most emergencies a nice tactical led flashlight will be orders of magnitude brighter, my 65 lumens led flashlight illuminates a whole room when pointed toward the roof, it just does not last as much as this SnapLight. It may be obvious for most, but this SnapLight are not for casual occasions in a price/illumination ratio perspective. They are a last resort when batteries are precious commodities and there is no electricity to recharge them if rechargeable, like in hurricanes. Being somewhat cheap while providing great running time is among its best points. I could not verify the full 12 hours (fell sleep....), but it seems to me they can last that much. Being one-use without on-off capabilities is the only bad thing about them. The SnapLight would be the last thing to use indoors for me. Candles are better in price/illumination/re-usability/flexibility ratio for indoors. In a backpack or the car while hiking or on the road would be where its value would truly shine. In short in outdoors is where this device is truly useful, where the wind and/or rain would make cumbersome other methods of lighting and signaling. About the seller and shipping: ======================= On a side note I bought it directly from Amazon, but they ship it without any padding on a big document envelope, while the envelope itself has a little padding, this is too thin and the box containing the sticks got a little mauled. The sticks seem to be fine, and the one a tried at random worked well. Because this sticks are one-use only without an on/off capability is unlikely to find out if any got broken while on shipping until I need them the most. I had the free super saver shipping option available, but chose to go with standard shipping thinking of speed and the fantasy of better care.. on shipping. Well It came quickly.. Usually Amazon has the better care with my packages, don't know what happened this time. The worst thing is the doubt.

Glow Sticks and Tips on using them...
These glow sticks are a solid product to have on hand for your home, survival kit, camping, boat, car and more. A 10 pack of these glow sticks met my needs perfectly. I have 1 for each car, 4 in my bug-out-bag, 2 for the home and I gave my daughter 2 to carry in her car. When you snap these, they glow green for 8-12 hours. They have a hook on one end which makes it convenient to hang on a tire well when changing a tire at night rather than fumbling with a flashlight. They can also be hooked in a tent, or around a campsite for 360 degree radiant light. The light from these will vary with temperature (warm = brighter/cold = dimmer) and fade over time, but they have advantages over candles, flashlights and other combustible light sources. First, they are waterproof and windproof - a distinct advantage over candles for obvious reasons, and they do not consume oxygen, which could be important in certain scenarios. They are non-flammable and safe in all environments especially in situations of unknown gases may be present and a flame (and possibly the electronics of a flashlight) could ignite the gas. They are also safer than candles if children are using them. The waterproof aspect is very important if it is raining and your light gear gets wet (matches, Bic's, flashlight, etc). Flashlights are good, but batteries die over time, or leak and corrode if not used regularly...these lights have a long shelf life and will be good to go if you need them. Last, but not least, they can be seen for about a mile away at night and can serve as a signal device at night.

Good Glow, Even Years After the Expiration Date
I purchased a pack of these over 6 years ago, the expiration date on the package was 2021. I doubted they would still work and the one package I had was slightly inflated like the stick had burst. I went to open it up and of course I had to try to see if it would still work. As soon as I clicked it the warm green glow started to light up the room. I was not expecting them to still work so well past the date and being exposed to some pretty extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) and some low pressures as well. Pros: -Long life time -12 hours of light -Bright Cons: -Don't really have any for this product, other than the cost compared to cheap glow sticks but those don't compare to this quality Overall, I plan on purchasing more of these soon to be stored for emergencies and hiking. I wanted to add a review after being so impressed with them working flawlessly well past their expiration date.

Great glow stick for camping!
I don't know what most people use glow sticks for (don't ask, don't tell, right?), but I bought this pack of 10 for camping. I have flashlights and such for most cases, but I wanted something that would put off a small amount of light and no heat for emergencies. I also used them in the tent at night so that I could get in and out of the sleeping bag but then tuck them under the sleeping back to not keep me up all night. These have been great little lights. They last for a long time (maybe not quite 12 hours, but after 6-8, who's counting?). The glow is bright but not too bright and illuminates a small area reliably. The foil wrapper is nice in that it protects the stick and gives it some firmess and structure in a bag, etc. They also have a little hook at one end, so you can hang them from your tent zipper, belt, backpack, whatever. The break and shake to light them is super easy. I only had to do it once each time for several sticks. I have not had and problems with these sticks leaking, melting, or anything like that. I have used several now and would definitely buy them again for future trips. Great product and reasonable price!

Top Quality Brand and Trustworthy Specs
This is the brand to buy for serious users. I know that the rest of the SG-1 team and I can rely on these glow sticks when exploring those Goa'uld ships or caves and clearing those rooms. But seriously, Cyalume is a leading brand for serious work. I don't want to be dramatic, but this is safety gear and your life might depend on it. Don't save pennies and risk life or limb. Tie one on to the back of your backpack or vest, and your team will know who you are (or find your body easily in the dark). Stick some on the kids, and you can keep an eye on them around the camp. This is a reliable manufacturer whose specs are solid - and while a bit more money than others, you get good value in this offering. Sure, if you are hosting a RAVE - get a cheaper brand in bulk. If you are getting ready for a space alien invasion or WW3 (any day now) - go with a Cyalume ten pack. Individually wrapped and ready to distribute for immediate or later use.
